Training Camp Thread 8/14/2013

The disparity in what the media reports is getting ridiculous. Some say no contact on Brady, others say they saw a video of Solder being pushed into it, another said there was a pile up.

More comments from Patriots fan Ceese Carcieri:

- Tom Brady stayed down and he was holding his knee. He walked off though and returned one play later.

- Brady looks like he is limping. Still in the practice though so all is good hopefully.

- Brady just walked off the field with two trainers. Not something you would like to see.

- The Pats finished their offensive series in 11 v 11. The Bucs take over and the first play is a pick by Talib.

- Doctors are currently examining Tom Brady's left knee. He felt something in it.

- Horrible throw by Mallett as he throws it right to the defender in the red zone.. Awful..

- Josh Freeman throws yet another interception. Logan Ryan, rookie out of Rutgers, with the pick.

- 2nd scuffle of the day between the Bucs-Pats.

- The two trainers that left with Tom Brady have returned to the field. No Brady though.

- Tom Brady leaves practice early after apparently suffering some sort of left leg injury.

- I'm nervous......

- Our defense is really impressive. A couple sacks and a couple INTs.

- Nice throw and catch. Tebow and Edelman. Tebow doing some things well now!

- Nearly a third pick from Freeman. Steve Gregory dropped it.

- Mike Glennon looks better than Josh Freeman right now.

- Tim Tebow just threw a pick. That doesn't help his cause. In 11 v 11.

Comments from Kevin McNamara, Providence Journal:

- Tom Brady has left field at Pats practice. Unclear why right now.

- Ryan Mallett handling 1st string QB duties at Pats camp.

- Tom Brady went down after T Nate Solder knocked back into him. Got up gingerly, left knee is the concern.

All this does is confirm that the media doesnt actually watch the plays. They're more interested in chatting with each other about whatever superficial narratives they're gonna run with and then look up occasionally when the crowd reacts to a "big play." Then they tweet about it as if they're following something. Thats why this or that player's "good" or "bad" practice is just a summary of two to three plays they happened to tweet about and often is completely different from one reporter to the next. No football knowledge or interest required in this industry, its not what makes you successful.

Not a single reporter was watching the play. Not one.

Comments from Christopher Price, WEEI.com:

- Brady leaves again and then back on the field for 11 on 11s. Not running with a limp, but still bears watching.

- Brady leaving practice.

- Mallett is running first team offense.

- Solder was pushed back by a Tampa Bay DE and got tangled up with Brady.

- FWIW, Pats trainer Jim Whalen, who was tending to Brady before and left with the QB, is back on the field.

Bowers(?) bull rushed Solder who fell onto Brady.

Who said there was no contact?

Everything I have seen is that there was a pile up, and upon closer review a Bucs player (Bowers?) pushed Solder back in to Brady.

This is what was universally reported by the media when it happened. They were obviously wrong.

very good sign

Again, I will ask: specifically who?

That is not what I have seen.

None of the reporters at practice saw the injury as it happened, or at least they didn't say they saw it. They reported that Brady fell to the ground after throwing an incomplete pass. It wasn't until the fan published the video that they saw exactly what happened.

More comments from Christopher Price:

- Pats practice just wrapping up. Crisp session in full pads that involved a ton of work. Spikes back at practice but Fells among missing.

- Big story from practice today was Brady limping off after suffering some sort of left knee or leg injury. Took place during 11 on 11s.

- Brady left with trainer Jim Whalen and wasn't seen rest of practice. Mallett ran offense in his place.

- With second offense, Tebow had a very nice sequence with a TD pass to Edelman & sharp passes to Thompkins & Sudfeld.

- With Dennard & Dowling on field but limited, Cole gets lot of reps with starters. Has highlight when he picks Josh Freeman in 7 on 7s.

- Ryan Allen had a punt blocked and Zoltan and Danny Aiken botched a snap as well.

- Logan Ryan had a nice pick of Freeman in 11 on 11. Could have taken it all the way back.

- Clayborn said he pushed Solder back at Solder tripped on Brady.

Re-read through the thread. There were some tweets cited.

Just re-read the entire thread.

Sorry, I found nothing.

Nobody that I have found said that Brady went down without any contact.

Observe, for I have the power of the internet. Why it was our own Derek Havens:

"Brady just fell to the ground and grabbed his knee after a throw. He laid on the field for a few minutes, but walks it off. Looks ok"

While it doesn't explicitly say "no contact" I think many of us interpreted "just fell to the ground" as that which I think is fair.

That's a bit of a stretch in my opinion, but if you feel that way then follow another writer. Check out writers for the 31 other NFL teams for perspective; I think your expectations are unreasonably high.

Then they tweet about it as if they're following something.
Actually the Patriots forbid the Pats beat writers from tweeting during practice. The in-practice info is almost exclusively from fans, or in today's case Tampa Bay beat writers.

Thats why this or that player's "good" or "bad" practice is just a summary of two to three plays they happened to tweet about and often is completely different from one reporter to the next.
Have you ever been to practice? It's entirely different from a game. For example, it is virtually impossible to get a good read on who is and is not doing well on the OL and DL. You can't sack the QB, so it is tough to assess the defense. You're nearly at field level, so there's not the same perspective when you sit high and can see the entire field. And there's no big screen or slow motion replays to help you out with either.

No football knowledge or interest required in this industry, its not what makes you successful.
It all depends on who you follow to reach that conclusion.

Not a single reporter was watching the play. Not one.
Right........

I interpreted it as that he just now fell to the ground.

You interpreted it as if he fell to the ground with no contact.

Thanks to other accounts coming in at the same moments I found it obvious that it was the former and not the latter.

I rarely engage in this type of crap with anyone. But how about this: https://twitter.com/shalisemyoung/status/367734375083151360

Is that to the point enough? Or do you actually need the words "no contact" in the message?

But you're entirely right, "falling to the ground" does mean he made contact with the ground:bricks:
