Exactly! And when you have the two best tight ends in the league you dont continue to dump cash into that part of the field. We need down-field threats to open it up for the tight ends....Remember the ravens just clogging the middle of the field and shutting us down?

The Pats just dont need Wes over a certain price with our tight ends. Also since we have glaring holes on D we should address those. Our dynasty was because we had a great D. Our WRs back then were nothing special.

Too many Madden fans on here just enamored with stats. Would it be great to have WWW sure? But we need to get back to a balanced PASSING attack so that teams have to respect the down field threat as well as the short routes

We didnt win a superbowl with Wes why is everyone so upset with Kraft and BB. I would take Patton Givens Brown over Wes anyday. Wes cant make the big catches 2 years in a row time for him to go and time for us to stack up on d and get reliable clutch WR's. Best move was to let him go with Manning lol i can see it now Manning throws a duck to a wide open Welker who drops it and its picked off and ran back for a pick 6 bahahahaha love it

There's no reason to be upset with Kraft, he wanted Welker back.

If that's the price, forget it. It's tough, but good luck to Wes. I'm out on that $$.

Thats 11 million per year - the pats have 25 million cap space to work with and take 7 million of that to pay rookies and emergency roster moves thst might come up during the season and you are left with 18 million to pay for wes, aqib and sebastian. No thanks wes.

This is pure stupidity. Kraft spends as much money as every other NFL owner, it all about the distribution. Why doesn't anyone get that?

Wes already knows the Pats offer and how they value him. Hes giving them one last chance to reconsider. Hows it business if hes seeing if the Pats will "match" not pay more?

Because he can up his salary here without the associated costs and risks of moving if the Patriots agree.

All that happened is Welker went to the market, got a number, and is using that number to try and force the Patriots to up their offer.

Welker's #1 'winning move' is to get the Patriots to agree to it.

If he ends up leaving it's not his 'best' outcome, since he has to move and dive into an unknown system. He's not doing the Patriots a favor here, this is strictly his best option.

Not being irrational and ditching the team without trying this move isn't being nice or classy.

If we lose Wes,

This is what I would hope happens:
Get a top free agent Safety or CB. And re-sign Talib. That makes me happy with the Defense. Ideally get Reed and Nnamdi and between the amount of bodies we'd have there (not having to rely on everyone to succeed), we should have a really good secondary.

Get a good DT -- someone to put next to Wilfork.

That would basically solidify our defense.

Then we can just spend draft picks on offense -- Draft a couple of wideouts with our top two picks. Keep lloyd and edelmen

Welker is not perfect but he stays healthy which is more than you can say about Gronk and Hernandez. Last time the pats got rid of their number one receiver(Branch to the seahawks) the receiving core was a disaster. Caldwell as the #1 anybody? Had the pats kept Branch they would have 100% won the SB that year.

If Welker is gone I hope to god BB has a plan better than he did in 2006/2007.

Welker isn't giving his team a chance to match the offer because he's classy, he's doing it because it's in his own best interest to see if he can stay in New England and get the money he wants. He shouldn't be faulted for doing what's in his own best interest, but he shouldn't be called classy for it either. If he'd rather be in Denver than New England, he wouldn't be giving New England the chance to match.

Does comparing our team with the redskins, jets and cowboys really make you feel better?

Belichick has chosen to pay big bucks when he wishes, sometimes more than what they might have gotten elsewhere. Essentially, Belichick made the choice about Welker at least a year ago when he chose to extend Hernandez and Gronkowski, but not Welker.

Welker knows where he stands with the patriots. By now, he knows where he stands with Denver. Personally, I think that Welker is worth more to us than to anyone. However, Belichick clearly doesn't see it that way.

When will you people get it? There is a reason the Pats are never in cap trouble and continue to contend every year. Yes much better to be the Jets, Cowboys, Redskins etc.... boy those teams pay guys top dollar and it never comes back to bite them in the ass. And of course the Pats have never paid their guys top dollar....Seymour, Wilfork, Mankins etc... yup cheap bastards.

I hear Tannenbaum is available, Kraft could go get him to run our cap that would be awesome! He would spend a ton of money on big name guys and make us all happy.

I'm more than willing to let welker walk for that kind of money. He's not worth that.
