Pink Hat Nation has taken over. The game is no longer important, as much as the event. Folks now plan there trips to Fenway as a pilgrimage to the baseball gods, and they are going to sing Sweet effing Caroline no matter what. The game is irrelevant.

I cannot stomach this team, and their southern California owners who've created this Pink Hat Nation in the place of where Red Sox Nation used to be. Tell me I am not alone.

that's the bad that always comes with the good, isn't it? Current ownership also delivered 2 WS wins. I'll take that over prior ownership, and I'll take it over just hard-core fans and a continued streak w/o winning. I'll also take it over, say, Frank McCourt, a Boston guy who wanted the Sox but got the Dodgers.

I wouldn't be singing sweet caroline after the team blew a 9-run lead, but I can't say I really care if other fans choose to.

As far as the '04 and '07 teams, this squad as it's constituted, is a far cry from those teams. This organization feels like "Nero fiddled, while Rome burned" to me. And, while I am ranting, there were plenty of Dan Duquette's fingerprints all over the '04 team. This group did go get Schilling and beefed up the D by dealing Nomar, but this ownership didn't build it from scratch.

That being said pink hat nation is the reason we have 100 million+ to spend on payroll. Its the reason we ain't Baltimore. Besides when April and May give way to June and July those pink hats tend to be connected to halter tops and short shorts. As opposed to the Razor where in December there's a pile of clothing standing over there and your pretty sure there's a girl in there somewhere.

I think it started in 2002. I remember liking it during the 03 & 04 runs. I was already ready to vomit about it by 07. So that's about a three year run where it was acceptable, before it was ruined by the pinkhats.

baseball is the sport where tradition matters most. I'll take a game at Fenway over any other park. Wrigley is choice #2.

tradition is about hanging banners not some old dump with obstructed view seats lousy site lines and small cramped seats. the green monster seats are a joke. unless you have seats in the first row you cant even see the left fielder play the ball. i like to see whats happening on the field i don't know about you. at some point just like the old boston garden fenway has to be replaced. the only reason it hasn't been replaced is politics and red tape and who is going to pay for it. not because its most beloved. no team has more history then the yankees. they dumped there old place because its whats in the best interest of the franchise going forward. the old boston garden was oozing with history and glory and you would be hard pressed to find anybody who misses that place.

Which ballparks do you prefer to Fenway? new YS? even my friends who are Yankees fans don't like it -- the amenities are great, but it has no soul.

As for serving the franchise, what need is there for a new park in terms of the club's best interests? Would they spend more money or just line ownership's pockets?

Site lines depend on where you sit, but most are fine. Obstructed view seats exist even in some new parks and stadiums; I've been to Fenway hundreds of times and never had obstructed view. Small, cramped seats? again, never been uncomfortable at Fenway -- but if comfort was my primary goal, I'd be sitting in my living room.

plenty of cities in our country don't seem to have a problem getting new ball parks built. Miami just did. but my point is if it wasn't for politicians in Boston there would be a new ball park because its needed. banners championships good teams make history and create the atmosphere not the field they are played on. the new garden had plenty of soul when the celtics hung banner 17. there was plenty of soul when the bruins hung there Stanley cup banner. the place was rocking. the yankees built a new ball park because it makes good financial sense and its good for the team. do the owners get more money? sure they do. they own the team. a team that's making money is a healthy team and a team that can spend money if they want to. why would all these teams in mlb build new ball parks if it wasn't going to help the franchise? Seattle Pittsburgh and st louis another team with history. ect ect? i go to a game to watch highly competitive baseball and if im going to shell out the expensive money to go i want the entire exp. if i want to reminisce about the good old days ill put in a dvd. i never thought of baseball parks as theme parks or museums. if the team is losing like they did against the yankees the other night i'm thinking this suks. not wow imagine who played here 80 years ago. chicago has a great history, a history of losing.
