No way Seymour should be on the list. He was 7th overall pick who turned to a regular starter and a top 10 DL in the league. He became what he was suppose to be. Big Vince is a much better choice.

Plus, John Hannah was the fourth overall player drafted. No doubt he was an elite player, but that's what's expected of a top 5 pick.

My personal thought is that top draft picks should represent extraordinary value, not players taken top 10 that lived up to their potential.

Based on 1 year alone? I'd honestly put even a guy like Matt Light ahead of him right now. 2nd round pick protecting the franchise for over a decade.

For me Gronk's ranking on this list remains to be seen. I guess all he has to do is avoid injuries and how he gets along with a QB not named Brady.

Yeah but it's not like guys selected in the top 10 never bust or always turn out to be all-pro's. Hannah/Seymour are a ****load of value even for when they were picked.

Hannah's probably the best Guard to ever play the game, Seymour was the most dominant defensive player on three SB championship teams.

Whatever criteria you want in determining value. Bledsoe made the list in the article but not mine. I don't think he was a good value for a #1 overall pick.

Where is Ty Law? I see his name in the title but not on the list. No reason he shouldn't be there, he had at least 3-4 seasons where you could argue him as THE best corner in the league. Considering he was picked in the 20s that's a fantastic pick. He's ahead of Seymour definitely who was taken 6th overall, not sure about the older guys. CuMar is easily ahead of Coates and again, not sure about the older guys. He's the 4TH LEADING RUSHER OF ALL TIME how can he be 5th on our list lol

Russ Francis, Bruce Armstrong, Drew Bledsoe, Ty Law, Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi, Lawyer Milloy, Troy Brown, Matt Light and Vince Wilfork should all be on the list before Gronk. Love Gronk but it's one season. I think his ankle will be fine but what if it wasn't and he was a one hit wonder? Would people still put him top ten in ten years? No. He's the hot fresh name. Armstrong is going to make the HOF at some point and Law is borderline. McGinist owns the all time playoff sack record.

Not knocking Gronk. It was the best season by a TE ever but it was still one season.

Sorry, I didn't actually read the article, but I assume it must take VALUE into strong consideration.

Even still, I would think that Drew Bledsoe would deserve consideration. Sure, he was the first pick overall, but the Pats didn't take Rick Mirer.

Also worthy based on value would be David Givens. How many post season TDs has this guy caught for a seventh round pick?

I didn't mean any offense and was just pointing out reasons for my point of view.

Yes two years but if year two was like year one he wouldn't be on the list.

BTW if we are including their entire career not just the Patriot numbers there's no way Curtis Martin isn't on the list. I know you had him but the NESN article had Plunkett and not Martin. I know Plunkett won two SBs but that was a function of how talented those teams were. His numbers were very average for that era and suck by today's standards.

Seymour didn't become a top 10 DL in the league, he became the best DL in his generation (you can argue Sapp or Freeney if you want).

Bingo ! On the Hannah comment. Quite possibly the greatest NFL Offensive Lineman in the history of the NFL. To me, he's the second best Pat's draft choice ever, behind Brady. If you are just talking about players drafted by the Pats, not value, or spot drafted, just drafted.
