Making the case for Osi Umenyiora

How about the Rams trade for Usi and then the Patriots trade with the Rams for Chris Long...

I want Osi too, but you are an endless record with your 'waste picks' for 4th and 5th's blah, blah, blah. We still draft more players than other teams, draft more high round players than other teams, all while being near the bottom of each round with our own picks.

And those 4th and 5th's just got us Haynesworth and Ocho. We get it, the draft never matches your mocks. get over it.

If the Pats gave up a 2nd round pick for a unproven Wes Welker then I would hope that they would give up a 2nd for a player who is more than proven. And giving up a 2nd now would help me out so much when it comes to draft when I am ready for them to draft and they trade the pick and I get pissed.

after hearing the ridiculous price it would cost to land osi, i do not want the patriots pursuing this deal.

we have some young talented pass rushers on the roster already that could be poised to step up this year. we have also acquired one of the best (if not the best) interior pass rushers in the game in haynesworth, albeit when motivated.

i would prefer to look for less extravagant options on the market and hope he turns into a diamond in the rough type a la vrabel in 2001.

If they can sign Mankins long term and cut Sanders there are two moves that make Osi a Patriot. Mankins at $8m and remove Sanders approx. $3m and you have $5m plus what they have left over. You might restructure Bodden and Ghost for another year or two which is not a bad thing. Worse case scenario, Morris is dropped.

Send Brace to the Giants as part of the package would help as well. His second round contract still has some bucks.

This Osi guy is a huge piece. I hope Nick is not sleeping as per usual.

BB is going to urinate away that second rounder for a bunch 4ths and 5ths in 2014 anyway once he trades it to a 2013 1st. Meanwhile back at the ranch, TB has found some gray hairs.

I expect Ocho's contract to get slashed as well. They slashed Moss and Branch as they entered/reentered Gillette, and I'm guessing Welker/Branch won't be too thrilled to see the new guy get bigger checks. I'm guessing $4 mill this year for Ocho. We should find out after Thursday.

I've been pimping for Osi since FA started but I gave up on that when it was brought to light that Condon is his agent.

Sad because I truly believe he is the missing link...

Condon isn't his agent

I don´t believe, that BB is willing to trade a 2nd pick .

Pass Rush is SO HUGE for us I've been SCREAMIN this since last season and it possibly could have cost us a SB. Mac could have had even more INTs and our DBs would have been that much better.

We need Osi BIG TIME! I'm not sure but do we have two 1st round picks next season? BB can work it reconstructing monies whatever it takes he can get it done. I know it's unbelichicklike to give a 1st but in this case he needs to STRONGLY look into it.

we seriously need a pass rush.. last year was pathetic on 3rd down... it was just watching the QB for 7 seconds and hope he either made a bad pass or the coverage could hold for that long... I'm not sure if haynesworth will make much a difference, I think he will but still, if you could get Osi for a second round, I would do it.. the time to win is NOW

Osi is a one-trick pony with an enormous ego. Anyone who gives up anything more than a 4th round pick for him is a fool. He can't play on early downs. He's a huge liability against the run.

Worst of all, he'll expect to be paid like a true starting DE. Sorry, but he's not. He's a pure pass-rusher, and we don't need him ruining our locker room chemistry with his whiny, self-centered attitude. We have young OLBs who will improve this year, and I'd rather have them and their team-first mentality than Osi's overrated ass.

Except that his agent is Tony Agnone.

Why the hell wouldn't you trade a 1st rounder? even a 2nd rounder? Tom Brady is 34 years old and the Pats should be in WIN NOW mode. Let's face it, we still have nightmares of Mark Sanchez having 30 seconds to throw the ball last January. The pass rush is the BIGGEST issue for this team. Can win with the team's current roster? Yes...but adding a pass rusher like Osi would Strongly solidify our chances.

Besides, what are we gonna do with next year's two 1st round picks? Trade for another 1st round picks for the following year? GIVE ME A BREAK! Go get Osi or some solid pass rusher

I'm pretty sure that one of the more knowledgeable posters had said a few days ago that his agent was Condon so I took it for fact. If it ain't then I'm all for a 2nd rounder.

I'm not knowledgeable but I did say that and was apparently WRONG
Thanks for the correction
It's why the internet and Patsfans beats the hell outa the media

the Giants want a first round pick and Osi Umenyiora wants 10+ million a year that combo does not sound like a patriot to me

But he's just what the Patriots need, a disgruntled player who thinks he's been lied to and done wrong by.
Oh wait, we have one of those and he's sporting a 10 mil franchise tag.
No thanks.

Its never going to happen..just like they never call PI in madden.

I want it to happen but it wont happen. What bugs me the most is that we keep stockpiling draft picks with a 34 year old QB.They need to have a win now mentality!!!BB outsmarts himself at times.

And what's more, Mankins has a legitimate beef -- against the CBA, granted, more than the Patriots. He was screwed by the extra RFA year.

Umenyiora, though, is no victim. He's not "underpaid" because of the salary written into this year of his deal. He chose, while still in his rookie contract, to sign a SEVEN-year extension that was heavily front-loaded.

A contract like that involves tradeoffs on both sides. The team takes the risk of paying out a big guaranteed payment, but benefits by having the player tied up long term, and gets the upside if the player does well. The player gets the security of cash upfront, enough to set him up for life even if he suffers a career-ending injury in game one, but gives up the potential upside. IOW, Osi chose the safe and conservative path, rather than gambling on his own success. But now he wants it both ways.

How many picks in the first 3 rounds have the Patriots *used* in the past 3 years? More or less than the average 9 that teams have?

Oh, that's right, they've actually selected 16 players in the top 3 rounds in the last 3 years! The stockpiling comment is just ridiculous.:bricks:

Its ridiculous because this guy is a worth giving up a draft pick. This team needs more pass rushers. How many more great years do u think Brady has?

I agree. I think if it's one time that BB goes out of character, this is the time. With a solid pass rush, we could really make a dominant superbowl run. We have all of the other keys in place.

Pass rush is only thing really missing.
