Teams have until 4 P.M. ET Wednesday to submit a claim on Randy Moss, and while he does not have a say on who takes him, the Herald's Ian Rapoport is reporting that if the receiver doesn't like the club that claims him, he's "willing to sit out the season."

Rapoport, citing a source close to Moss, says that Moss "wants a ring."

Obviously this could just be posturing on Moss' part to try and scare away teas like the Rams and Bears from claiming him, but Albret Breer mentions a good point: some teams may be just fine with Moss not reporting: "There's a feeling that teams will put in claims to block him from going elsewhere."

Pay a guy $6 million to do nothing?
Just so he doesn't end up going to a different team, even though all he's done all season is be unproductive and cause problems?
Doesn't make sense. :bricks:

he wants to come back here.

that is obvious.

it may not be what it was, but the QB here can get him the ball more than anyone

and he opens things up.

duct tape for his mouth

Yes, its very clear he wants to come back. Anyone who believes he WON'T be a model citizen here is clearly lacking depth of brains. Randy knows he will ALWAYS be one strike away from hitting wires again, thus keeping his mouth quiet and being a locker room idle like he has always been. It's all up to BB.

I really think those teams who have a legitimate chance to win the SB are looking at the way the Pats dismissed him and are saying no thanks,they don't need any distractions.

The only teams I could see taking him are teams that are likely to go nowhere and use him to teach thier young WRs of the fundamentals.

I thought he would be a model citizen this season. He proved he couldn't. What has changed in the last few weeks that makes you so positive he wouldn't act up if he came back?

Would the team that claims him be able to franchise him next year?

Tag & trade possibly?

if he comes back, I think the pats can get a few months of cooperation out of him.

he simply did not know how good he had it here. he lost it when he showed up in MN and realized that favres arm is dead. and that childress is even more ridiculous than tice

Excellent.

A month of having balls sail over your head and hearing a coach who is all talk and no action most likely did WONDERS for his attitude.

and use him to teach thier young WRs of the fundamentals.

Which fundamentals are that.....

* rambling incoherent press conferences

* insulting the lunch help

* running over meter maids

* mooning the crowd

* taking playings off

He is a freak of nature and an incredible athlete...but he is not a role model for younger players.

Moss skills are obviously diminished in a way that the most valuable quality he has at this stage in his career is to play the role of decoy and stretch out defenses and free up slot receivers and tight ends while the safeties still have to respect his size and skill and double cover at times to keep Moss from making a long catch

No team is gonig to pay millions to a decoy,some teams could use him in that regards but won't pay the money he desires.

The days of Moss being a game changer and dominant WR are over - He is still above average but no longer Elite.

I am more looking at the prospect of him showing how a WR needs to play the game..ON THE FIELD

OFF THE FIELD he is a different story.

That's an interesting question considering when he went to Minnesota they re-did his contract so he could not be franchised. I think obviously if a team claims him then they WOULD NOT be able to franchise him but if he clears wavers and signs with another team, unless he specifies otherwise, would be able to.

Why would he be a model citizen in his contract year? It's just the way he is, like other WR's in the league. Even at the end of the 07 season, he started to talk about a contract, but at the time our offense started to revolve around him, so i'm sure he knew the Patriots were hard at work going to re-sign him.

It's quite clear that he wants to be a New England Patriot again. Did he really act up before he left? He had that one rant in week 1 and that's it, Vikings kept on calling about Moss and so BB felt it was the right time to trade him. I'm sure Moss felt utterly disappointed but went with it until he took his first step into the Minnesota organization, then realized how much he missed this one. His press conference after the game tells the whole story.

BB traded him once, i'm sure Randy knows that he will do it again(release) if he acts up. Randy is willing to accept a smaller role and become a team player, he has seen the other side and its quite clear he does not like it.

Don't get me wrong, I think he would be the perfect soldier the first few weeks, but I think eventually this bipolar-ness would overtake him and he'd explode once again before the season is over.
At the very least I think Belichick smells the potential for it and with how successful our team has continued to be without him, I just don't see him taking the risk.

* mooning the crowd
That was "fake" mooning the crowd and it was really funny at the time.

This is greate for the media as it gives them plenty to talk about. Though, it will be interesting to see how this ends.

yeah... but he is a waste of a roster space.:p

he is also a bad influence on the young ones that are developing chemistry....

go away Randy.... never comeback :)

:cool:

Moss has already proved he can still make plays, against Revis in Week 2, I know it was one play but, how many people in 05, 06, and 07 before the season started said his talents were gone, this and that. What has he done since? Oh yeah, 50 touchdowns in 52 games. Moss is still very much of a game changer and an elite WR.

There is a difference between not being motivated to play and your skills completely going out the window.

That's not necessarily true, He was constantly teaching Harvin the ups & downs of being a WR. I think it really depends on were he is emotionally and who he is playing for.
