Mayo & Spikes - Eye Popping Numbers

Mayo always makes tackles 5-10 yards down field never makes plays at the LOS.:bricks:

Spikes and Mayo are solid against the run. Our D is going to be destructive after the 2011 draft.

To be pedantic, a tackler isn't a playmaker. The knock on Mayo - and he's said it himself - is that he fails to occupy the other columns in the stat sheet. Sacks. Forced fumbles. Picks. Even passes defended. Until he starts to make big plays it's tough to look at him as more than a tackling machine. Certainly a valuable part of the D but not a play maker.

I think we're starting to see them develop an identity. Spikes is more of a playmaker in terms of big plays, he was in the backfield several times towards the end of the game blowing runs up. Mayo is Mr. Dependable, there to make the tackle and end the play whenever it gets to him.

I am really liking how the young D is developing.

i guess its unfair to criticize mayo with those numbers. but id really like him to start creating turnovers. I think he needs to start getting INTs, FF, FR, sacks, et.

Outstanding numbers. Soon the big plays will come too but they are both doing very well. Was also impressed with Cunninghams continued improvement as well as Ninkovich pitching in a mere 8 tackles.
Did TBC even play today. He didn't make the stats sheet.

About Ray Lewis and the other Ravens backers, I think they have it a bit easy with that D-line.

If I had to start a defense, I think I might take Ngata over anyone else in the league. He destroyed the Patriots on that side of the line. He is a load. No wonder why no one ever gets a hat on the Ravens LBs. They are free to do what they want.

The D line played well. Crable played fairly well also

Spikes is the playmaker at linebacker. Mayo is the steady tackling machine.

This team is extremely strong up the middle now with Wilfork, Mayo/Spikes, and Chung.

We did look stronger with Wilfork as a DE. It forced the Ravens to run up the middle, right into Spikes and Mayo. Keep that formation on defense.

This was a great game for our young interior LB duo. I believe a poster said prior to this game that we should line up wilfork outside so the ravens would be enticed to run up the middle and right @ our dynamic duo.

I wanna give him/her credit but i can't remember who posted that idea.

That's ridiculous. Kevin Williams is underated, he is one of the best defenders in the NFL, arguably the best DT.

Nah. Like I said, Ngata is better. Williams would struggle to make a list of the top 5 defenders in the NFL.

Indeed. This is the second game in a row that this formation has helped to shut down the run against two pretty strong running teams.

Don't forget that Ngata is also banged up pretty good as well.

Ngata is to the Ravens defense what Wilfork is to ours. That is: indispensable. He's an absolute beast; watching him just run right around Koppen on the stunt was just brutal.
