Our RBs are made of glass.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Running back Thomas Clayton, who was with the team in training camp, was spotted in the team's locker room during the media access period today.

Clayton was on the Cleveland Browns practice squad, so this could mean that he's been signed to the Patriots' active roster. The team has no official announcement at this time.

Veteran running back Fred Taylor (toe) left Sunday's win over the Bills in the third quarter and did not return, so Clayton's presence could be tied to Taylor's status. Taylor was not spotted at practice Wednesday.

The Patriots had BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Sammy Morris, Danny Woodhead and practice squad back Javarris James at running back during Wednesday's practice.

Does this mean Taylor to IR? They had room for Clayton the other day before promoting Ohrnberger.

I was wondering that, how they'd add him without IR'ing Taylor.

MikeReiss?: The Patriots announce the signing of RB Thomas Clayton and release OL Quinn Ojinnaka.

Man, can't Taylor EVER stay healthy ? I know he's older, but he's had the injury bug his whole career.

Anyone know if the compensation for Ojinnaka was conditional? If so, have those conditions been met? I hope we don't owe anything for an inactive player who was cut after a couple weeks; that's a very poor return on investment.

Yes it was a conditional pick, and I'm pretty sure it was not met.

Taylor had actually been fairly healthy his last few years with the Jags. Wasn't until joining the NEP that the old age injuries hit.

As far as Clayton, all I know about him is when I saw him on the field in the preseason I thought "Now that looks like a RB." Not much to go on, but it's all I got.

Good thing.

And for that matter. Anyone know the compensation that the Pats traded for White and Page?

Since the trade was for a conditional pick, it's pretty likely that we didn't give up anything for Ojinnaka. Teams like the Falcons make these trades because they're planning to cut a guy anyway, and trading for a conditional pick at least gives them the possibility of getting some compensation back. Since he only stuck with the team for 3 games, I doubt we're even losing a 7th rounder at this point.

I'm pretty sure they traded a 7th for White. Not sure about Page.

Actually, I asked Reiss, and this was his response:

Andrew (Rochester, NY)

Mike, do you know if the pick we gave up for Ojinnaka is conditional? If so, are we still on the hook after cutting him today? It seems like a very poor return on investment, although I'm happy to see Clayton return.
Mike Reiss (1:10 PM)

Andrew, I don't believe it was conditional. My belief is that it was a straight-up seventh-rounder. They probably viewed it as insurance that they needed at the time, but they've been a bit careless with some of those 7s of late.

Hm. Not sure I like that.

Why so many RBs in our main roster? I am fine with the 4 we have now.
