against Denver. I was quite excited when Billy Sullivan was awarded
the franchise and followed all their transations as the team was formed.
Lou Saban looked at hundreds of prospects and was very unforgiving.
If a player made a mistake in an exhibition game, he was gone on Monday morning.
I attended the game with my uncle who was retired. The parking was so limited
that we had to park in the Kenmore Square area. I nearly gave
him a heart attack running to the game. We got there just after the game
had started.
As for the game itself, the Pats lost the game when Chuck Shonta
tried for an interception and missed. This lead to a long pass
play and a game winning field goal.
Much to the consternation of my wife, I remain a Patriot's nut to
this day. If I stay on this website too long, she gives me a hard time.
Same here old man.......I was 8 years old when my Dad took me to that first ever Pats game...I do remember the last second FG and loss with the horizontally striped sock Bronco's - hated that team then and hat 'em now.
I have been to well over 300 home and about 25 away games since.

First ever Patriots Game @ Schaefer stadium in September of 71 if my memory serves me right. Rookie QB Jim Plunkett against the big bad Oakland Raiders. The one I remember most was the Giants preseason game of that year which was the first ever game @ Shaeffer, Fran tarkenton, toilet problems and a tremendous traffic jam. Didn't get out of the parking lot until 4:30 a.m and I wasn't even tailgating! Those were the days, I had hair and a normal size prostate.

My first game was the first preseason game in Gillette stadium. My father-in-law had season tickets and let me have them for that game.
Ian went with me. The seats turned out to be horrible... the railings blocked the view to the field. It was easier to watch the game standing up in the concourse or on the bridge.
Ian wrote an article about it for the site as I recall.
Other than the bad seats, I had a great time and I thought the new stadium was amazing.
I also got to go to the first regular season game in Gillette stadium against the Steelers. Fantastic game!
