Patsfan-1982, If you read my original post, I said to forget about LT's HOF career and focus on who is the more talented/valuable RB in 2010. I don't think it's being disrespectful to LT to compare him to Woodhead in this context, and I do realize that he's had an amazing career.

Pessimistic Pete, Woodhead has been much more than just a 3rd down back and I think he could get plenty more carries and stay healthy.

Danny averages 7 carries a game, LT averages 15.

Woodhead's career high is 11 carries, 4 behind LT's current average.

I love Woodhead, am thrilled we extended him and can't wait to see what he does next. But him and LT have different roles.

Woodhead has rushed 82 times. Exactly half of those were on first down. 35 of the remainder were on 2nd down. Only 6 were on 3rd down.

11 of his receptions were on 1st down, 9 on 2nd down, and 11 on 3rd down.

52/82 of his carries were when we were leading or tied, as were 21/31 of his receptions.

Woodhead is platooned with BJGE by package and by situation. Benny is getting most of his carries out of power packages, Danny out of spread packages. It's situational, not a simple down and distance thing.

I know one wants to hear this... but if tomlinson plays on this team with BB and Brady i think you would have seen his numbers shoot up even furthur... this team makes players better... IMO

Lots of people believe this. Look at all the folks who are breathlessly waiting for Fred Taylor to replace BJGE and run for 200 yards a game. Hell, the Jets *cut* Woodhead. He's a 3rd string 3rd down back from a 3rd rate school. LT is a 1st string 1st down 1st ballot HoF back. No contest!

So he's got an imaginary 200 yard game now, good for him. Those are much less taxing on the body than real ones too.

Woodhead holds the non-imaginary NCAA record of 19 200+ yard games, and holds the 300+ yard record as well iirc.

So Division II competition is now the same as the NFL? Sure, why not?

Surprising no NFL players have 19 - 200 yard games. But then, Jim Brown, OJ and Corey Dillon were no match for Danny Woodhead!

I believe Nate Kmic is still available. We should grab him before someone else does.

Still impressive nonetheless... I'd like them to hand it to Woody 15 times in a game because I know he'd be able to handle it. With enough carries he could rack up yardage pretty quick and probably have at least a few one hundred yard games in a season. On a side note, Kevin Faulk never had a 100 yard game on the ground in his career. I don't think Woody will ever get tons of carries in a game because BB probably doesn't want to risk injury, plus TB has to throw some.

You know, it's possible to love the hell out of Woodhead and BJ without comparing them to Hall of Famers.

So anyway, what about Nate Kmic? All time NCAA rushing leader, and still available, I believe.

What does it matter if I compare Woody to LT? It isn't a comparison of their careers but of their production and skill and 2010. You a Jets fan??;)

Long jump from Division 3 to the NFL. Kmic unfortunately is Woodhead's size without Woodhead's speed. That said, I'd hope someone would give a look in training camp, you'd think he'd have earned that.

BTW, I would have said exactly the same think about Woodhead coming out of Chadron.

If you think that that's an indication of prejudice, then how about relying on measurements that Woodhead himself has acknowledged are bogus?

Or how about underhandedly dropping the race card in spectacular "I'm not accusing anyone of racism, but it certainly seems like racism may be at play here" fashion? For the record, every 'criticism' (if you can even call it that) that I've leveled at Woodhead applies equally to Darren Sproles, so you're going to have to do better than that.

You haven't addressed it. As I pointed out, a Patriots RB has led the league in DVOA among RBs with <100 carries for each of the past 4 years, whether it was Morris, Faulk, or now Woodhead. There's clearly another variable at work here that you're blind to, and it's pretty obvious what it is. FO stats are not turnkey: they do not account for system/scheme, and I know this from the extended conversation that I had with Aaron Schatz on the matter. In case you don't recognize the name, he would be the guy who runs FO, and who invented the statistics that you're citing.

How is it a red herring? Ice Ice Brady said that GMs value guys like Danny Woodhead and Kevin Faulk more than they value guys like Ladainian Tomlinson. I used their actual salaries to prove that he was wrong. Accusing me of anything else is just putting words into my mouth, which frankly is pretty much all that you've done up to this point.

Which is why I compared LT's salary to Faulk's instead. Established player to established player.

That's not exactly what FO is saying. Once again, I think you've overestimated your understanding of FO statistics considerably. My understanding of DVOA and DYAR, based on the knowledge that I've gained reading the FO Almanac cover to cover every year, is quite different.

    Nobody's claimed otherwise.
