Wilfork Restructures Contract (3 Yr 22.5 Mil)

That's about as well constructed a contract as they could have come up with in this situation. They give Wilfork the opportunity to make 8 million and protect themselves completely. Phenomenal job of creating that deal and getting it done. It gives me a great deal of confidence that they will be able to get the other important deals they have coming up done. Revis, McCourty, Ridley, and Vereen are all going to have to be done in the next year and i think there's a strong chance they get them all locked up long term.

Wilfork deserves better than fat jokes.

I, too, am a portly gent. I think he may have heard a comment or two in his time, and doubt very seriously that he is reading these boards, TB.

However, my apologies to the big guy if in fact this is the first time he's ever heard or read something hurtful about his weight. I assure you, Vince, it was meant with love, and furthermore plead for my life.

FYI - If the Patriots choose not to pay the 2015 $4m roster bonus, they will have to cut Vince before 2015 League Year begins.

If cut, he will then have a head start on free agency while making him ineligible to be franchise tagged while also being ineligible for 2016 compensatory picks process

Ever since Field Yates wrote "500,000 for the first game on the 53-man roster" I have seen it interpreted as 75 has to make the 53-man roster Week 1 in order 2 collect the money. I am pretty sure and Field Yates confirmed my suspicion over Twitter that the 500K is contingent is making the 53-man roster anytime during season. In other words, the Patriots gave Wilfork the 53-man roster deal as Browner.

This seems like a pay as you go deal for the patriots. Wilfork gets only $2.6M if he can't pass a physical (or $2.8M if he can still get a workout bonus while injured).

The patriots are not out any more money until Wilfork can actually be part of the 53, and then he is paid additional money on an incentive basis. If he plays say 70% of the reps for 10 games, he owed another $1.5M.

In the end, the $4.3M for playing 10 games is very reasonable for the patriots. They will a more serious option for 2015, paying him a $4M bonus and $3M of salary. IMHO, that seems unlikely. It IS possible if Wilfork is back to 2012 form.

What gets me ready to slap some cretins upside the head are/were the comments about Wilfork's wife.

Every fan base has its losers. I just wish we were the exception.

If they cut him before the year it's only 1.3m. Still think that's a good possibility.

I believe that if Wilfork is cut in camp, he will get his signing bonus, workout bonus and GUARANTEED base salary for a total of $2.8M.

I welcome Miguel's correction if I am incorrect.

Maybe you're right. I remember something like y hat being guaranteed.

Expensive wager on his health.

He will also get his weight bonus of $300,000.

I admit to saying that Bianca is the decision maker. Wilfy and TFB are the only 2 guys more whipped than I. (OK, maybe Miguel too)
That said, Wilfork appears to have a great family. He is blessed.

Why do my 2015/2016 cap numbers for Wilfork differ from others?I am treating only 4 games, not 16 as LTBE

I;m ecstatic that we got our defensive All-pro leader back on the team (i know he never left).

There isn't a better NT on the roster so thankfully Vince is back

I think they paid too much for him but at least most of it is not guaranteed. I suspect the owner was behind the signing and overpaying, but I can hardly blame him for being sentimental; Vince has been a great guy.

Oh I ment I wonder what the weight requirement is to get the bonus.

LOL. Do not know. Do know that Wilfork earned the weight bonus last year.

Where do we stand in terms of available cap space with the Wilfork restructure/extension and the resigning of Wendell?

Up Shyte Creek without a paddle, that's where.

Wilfork looking good ... looks a little leaner ... a bit.

YOWZA -- Bianca looks like she's shed about 100 lbs.!

I had an interesting chat a few weeks ago with an orthopedic physician (a knee-surgery specialist) who said Vince will be very lucky to play well this coming season. He said there's a wide range of Achilles tears from being totally shredded to partially torn. All are very bad for athletes and all take a solid year to recover from enough to BEGIN putting stress on again. He said that invariably, the type of push that explosive movement comes from does not return 100 percent. It'll be interesting to see what Vince can bring but I'm not expecting much from him in 2014.
