I'm no cap expert, but that weight bonus is so NLTBE. :pigsfly:

LOL. Weight bonuses, because they are in complete control by the player, are considered LTBE

From the CBA
Any incentive within the sole control of the player (e.g., nonguaranteed
reporting bonuses, offseason workout and weight bonuses) shall be deemed
"likely to be earned."

In light of the other stuff you've written here I want to point out - I didn't bold them.

When was the last time VW made his 325 lb weight clause in his contract? Is that excess weight also needed for sports and blessed by medical professionals?

I didn't know about them then. Obviously the Pats signed off on the deal. Also obviously a run stuffing NT/DT doesn't get paid the same this year as they were back when VW signed his deal - which is another factor.

I'm glad you agree that they were factored in when his deal was signed - and that it was legitimate to do so.

What I object too is the notion promoted by some here (before this deal) that we should view him through some filmy romantic gauze after a very serious injury, and "man up" and honor his contract because he's a top dozen Patriot of all time. At this point he's going to collect well over 90% of his original deal. I don't remember you supporting that POV, so we have no argument with each other on that point.

A ridiculous rhetorical snark. BTW, we will not have all our holes filled (as well as we will on day 1 of the season) after the draft. It's a nonsensical POV that we will. That's that's just straight logic based on being a fan since 1966, no need for me to create a rhetorical snark.

Quite a few have argued we should not give credence to his 2013 season, nor should we project his future with anything but his past.

Obsession? No it's a rhetorical device to mock the other side. Obtuse much?

If we cut him we get $7.58M off the cap. It's my point that we can (my estimate is > 90%) make better use of the money on other proven healthy NFL players - say 4 of the following (C De La Puente, Davis or Daniels at TE, DE Ayers or Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, Blount, DT Pat Sims) than handing VW guaranteed money plus whatever else he might earn this year. To me (before the deal was announced) $3M to VW was like pissing into the wind. Since BB has entered into this deal, we'll have to see what happens. If he plays very well, than fine I was wrong. If he can't play or is a shadow of his former self, than I was right.

AH HA: Pats saving about $5M this year according to Gaspar (via 98.5) - say it is $5M - so it's a $2.58M net difference. That's OK.
Yeah sorry I bolded them. My wording was wrong. Same with above. Look my tone could have been different yesterday but I had to be quick as I was at work. All I was saying is that in summary 5m savings is pretty damn good. I don't think we could have replaced Vince for the 2.5m difference.

I was expecting the worst and got the best. I don't care how much he ended up costing the team.

It's great to have Big Vince back.

Now all we can do is hope he has a full recovery and finishes out his career in style here.

300,000 is the weight bonus amount.

To clarify, I believe Miguel means 300,000 dollars is the amount of money connected to the weight bonus.

Can't be too careful.

Make it up? I didn't mean 'unwashed masses'. Don't put words in my mouth through some filmy romantic gauze. I'm more than able to speak for myself to create a rhetorical snark to mock the other side and better than most in this fractious group of obtuse unwashed savage unfeeling low life's.

Fixed it for ya using your own words ;).

Ad libs with bagwell368. This is kinda fun!:)

See Albert Breer's timeline for the complexity of Wilfork's contract:

$500k bonus for Pats being in the top 10 scoring defense for example.

this contact isn't a cake walk..no wonder it took so long to come up with

Lots of decisions for next year..

Pats in an interesting spot: Decision points coming in Revis & Wilfork deals in '15, Gronk deal in '16. McCourty, Ridley, Vereen up next yr.

Patriots reducing risk.

Where do we stand in terms of available cap space with the Wilfork restructure/extension and the resigning of Wendell?

I wonder if the Yates article is just speculation or he has sources on the Wendell situation. I don't think he would write that if he didn't have inside info.

Where do we stand in terms of available cap space with the Wilfork restructure/extension and the resigning of Wendell?

May I suggest bookmarking Miguel's UNOFFICIAL 2014 Patriots Salary Cap Information Page

According to my figures the Patriots' 2014 current commitment is for $121,245,491 with 64 players signed. My numbers do INCLUDE the cap impact of the Wendell re-signing and includes Vincent Wilfork's new 2014 cap number. I have the Patriots' 2014 dead money as $10,057,857. $10,057,857 + $121,245,491 = $131,303,348. The Patriots 2014 adjusted cap number is $139,109,051 so I have the Pats under it by $7,805,703. The https://nflplayers.com/reports/public-salary-cap.htm
NFLPA cap report has the Patriots under their adjusted cap number by $4,019,036 - a difference of $3,786,667. The difference in the numbers can be explained by noting that I am including the cap impacts of the Wendell re-signing and Wilfork extension while the NFLPA's numbers do not. The first reports on Wendell's deal estimated that he will earn 2 million in roster bonuses annually.

A note on Ryan Wendell's deal with New England Patriots - ESPN Boston

ESPNBoston.Com's Field Yates makes a rather convincing case that the NFLPA may have a simple clerical mistake and that the total is actually $200,000 and not $2,000,000. My numbers presume that Wendell's roster bonus totals 200K, and not $2 million.

Breer's reporting the contract breakdown, Twitter-style:

Wow ... The Vince Wilfork deal is complicated. In 2014: $1.3M to sign, $1.3M base, $300K weight clause, $200K workout bonus ...

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/449960088691019776

... $500K for first game on the 53-man roster, $87.5K per game in roster bonuses for being on the 46-man roster.

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/449960342983282688

So that's $5M for Wilfork. Then ... $500K for 50% playtime, $1.25M for 60% PT, $2M for 70% PT, $2.5M for 70%/divisional playoff appearance

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/449960942215131137

Wilfork can then make $500K for 70% playtime and Pats being Top 10 in scoring defense.

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/449961125627834368

So Wilfork makes $8M in 2014 if he plays every game, 70% of the snaps, and Pats make the divisional playoffs and rank Top 10 in scoring D.

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/449961411285110784

Then, Patriots have a $4M roster due Day 1 of the 2015 League Year. $3M base for '15, $500K in per-game bonuses, $300K weight, $200K workout

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/449961814357721088

In 2016, Wilfork a $5M base, $300K weight, $200K workout, $500K in per-game roster bonuses.

Thank you Miguel! I go on your page just about everyday during the offseason I just wasn't aware that you update it so quickly. You really do a remarkable job with the page!
