Right, the only way it makes sense to give up more than a #2 would be if we offered him a dirt cheap contract that Miami could easily match. Any kind of big money ($2M or more) deal in which we give us more than a #2 is flat out stupid. Not that a #7 would kill us but it would still be stupid.Unless we get him at the price of the tender? Or less than what the offer sheet was?

Could always flip it for a #6 next year more than likely.Well there really aren't many roster spots open on this team, so it seems pretty unlikley that a 7th rounder could do much for us
That's BS. Even a second round it's too much.
The only logic that I see here is that teams are very reluctant to open the hornet's nest of the poison pill.
If the Patriots give up a 7th round pick in addition to the 2nd rounder and avoid a quid pro quo where another team uses the poison pill against them it's worth it.
I've had the feeling that there's a bit of a gentleman's agreement among the GMs and that once teams start breaking it, the floodgates will open.

Well you know what they say about Nice Guys. The only logic that I see here is that teams are very reluctant to open the hornet's nest of the poison pill.
