I was sorry to see that. I don't like to see that kind of a gimic in a deal which was just designed to make it very unlikely the Seahawks would match it. Just make a normal deal and either they match or they don't.
For a couple of years of years now I've advocated that if a player signs a 5 year deal with a 5 million signing bonus the SB would still be protated over the 5 years. But, the salaries would have to be the same over those 5 years as well. Or maybe no more than a 10% raise in each year. I think it would help prevent teams from having to cut guys when now, the ballon salaries come in the last year or two of a deal. And also help keep down the cap trickery that now goes on with teams and even slow the 'cap over cash' problem some. There may have to be some tweaks to this idea as I haven't thought every angle out.
