I think the Vikings would be wise to turn their backs on the Favre fiasco and sign Vick to a prove-it deal. He offers much more upside to that offense IMO, especially if they plan on using Percy Harvin in a wildcat role. A backfield of Vick, Harvin and Peterson would at the very least make that stagnant offense one of the leagues most interesting to watch.

Hard to get to the playoffs if your start 0-4.

That IMO all but guarentees he will be signed to be a wild cat xfactor type or just a flat out back up and not to compete for QB1.

I just cant see a team signing him and than having to have a fill in QB for 4 games.

Use the Vikings as an example as the above poster did. Sign Vick and what Jackson starts first 4 games? oh yeah that is a great way to start week one of the season hey Jackson we think you are such a good QB go out and win some football games for us but come week 5 we have someone better than you.

all that said who ever signs him will have a very intriguing back up QB.

Yeah, no way Vick is signed to be the man at QB. If something were to happen to a teams QB during the course of the season, maybe. He's going to be used as an offensive weapon at quite a few positions.

Btw, no way in hell the Vikings start 0-4. They play Detroit in the second game. :D

    Another asinine decision by Goodell.

The PETA people are going to be out in full force.

They seriously love animals more than they do human beings.

Why is this asinine? Vick's paid his debt to society. The NFL is further suspending him. If a team wants to take a chance on him, the team and Vick should be granted that right.

Stallworth will get similar treatment in 2010.

The Jets, they still need a QB.

Most of that poster's opinions don't really make too much sense.

1.) It punishes a currently non-existent team that might want Vick as a starter by making him ineligible for the position for 4 games. This leads to...

2.) It creates a possible QB controversy when Vick returns in 4 games.

1 + 2 limits the teams that Vick can go to for no good reason, since Vick has already spent time both away from the game and in the pokey.

But, right or wrong, those arent the criteria for his decision.
His decision is based on the concept that punishing unsavory behavior will reduce such behavior and improve, or keep intact the image of the NFL.
I think that if Goddell believes he accomplished that he wouldnt care whether or not their were other consequences like you list.
I dont really care much either way, but I'm not shedding any tears that it inconveniences Vick.

I got a feeling that he will end up on the Detroit Lions. He's an obvious upgrade over Culpepper and the Lions will more than likely will be okay with going four games into the season before they can use Vick. Just my two cents.

Wouldnt that screw with the development of your #1 pick rookie?

Whoops... forgot about Stafford. My bad on that. :bricks:

Regardless if its not the Lions then the Raiders make sense for Vick. Honestly I'd take Vick here on the Vikes over Lord Favrequad but that means we'd have to use either Jackson or Rosenfelds for the first four games.

Vick was punished. Goodell's criteria is senseless, as it so often has been during his brief tenure.

Someone out of nowhere like Cleveland might give him a call...they need a QB and they like to run the wildcat so they could be strong contenders...

Here's my question: the whole Personal Conduct Policy and corresponding discipline was put in to place in reaction to NFL fans being upset about off-field problems by players, correct? And was Roger Goodell going to not wait for what happened in a court of law, and not bother to take that in to consideration with his fines and suspensions? If that is the case then why is Michael Vick given a four-game suspension while Dante Stallworth is suspended indefinitely when Vick's actions created far more uproar with fans than Stallworth's did?

It sure looks to me like Goodell is looking at the punishment in a court of law in some cases (Vick, Stallworth), and not taking that in to consideration in others cases when a case is still pending in the legal system.

4 weeks is a slap on the wrist for something that gets serious jail time.

It's almost as if it's the punishment for the coverup, the marijuana use, and so on, not for the crime itself.
