Tom Curran said on Comcast Sportstonight that it is his understanding that Ben Jarvis Green Ellis and Maroney are both now tied for the starting half back position on the New England Patriots. Curran says that he agrees with the Patriots that BJGE and Maroney should be tied now for the starting spot.

Further, Curran says that Fred Taylor made a point of coming over to him and asking him to put into print that " Ben Jarvis deserves this opportunity to be the lead back. He is a good running back. Print that. "

I doubt him. He's just a sensationalist writer now and will say things I don't believe are strictly true to make waves.

You believe that he went on Television and made up a lie that Fred Taylor told him to print that BJGE deserves a chance to start?

If Curran honestly believes that, then I have some property in Nebraska with an ocean view that he might be interested in ...

    No Jersey Selected

If this is true, I'm sure the Pats are relieved to have Curran's approval.

Perhaps we should ask Curran if Sergio Brown will start.

I believe Taylor said something nice about BJGE.

Maybe everything Curran said is completely true and not exaggerated. That wouldn't be the way I bet, though.

    I don't know, I hope Fred doesn't think he's back in Tennessee...

    Maybe they're really shopping Lawfirm...

This isn't as far fetched as everyone thinks.
Faulk, Taylor, and Morris are getting old in age, and are basically situational backs for various needs based on down and distance.

I don't think Maroney should automatically get the job because he was a high draft pick. Maroney has been here since 2006 now and hasn't really taken over.

This offense really just needs a guy who can grind out 3 or 4 yards a carry, which is what Law Firm does. He runs extremely hard, and is more consistent with less variance between his yardage runs.

This team won Superbowls with Antowain Smith, even years where Antowain had poor ypc figures, because Smith consistently gave them 2nd and 7 and 3rd and 3 options after his runs.

I have little doubt Taylor and Maroney will split most of the carries while healthy. Curran didn't really say BJGE could be the starter as much as he didn't say he couldn't. He did say he thinks BJGE and Maroney may be starting the preseason on an even footing but that's as close as he came to saying this from what I heard.

I think this is spot on. BJGE doesn't exactly have to beat out Walter Payton here to be the starter. If he can stay healthy, not fumble the ball, not dance and block to protect the QB, he's ahead of the game in NE.

BB starting him with the 1's last night was not likely a headgame.

Tom Curran lost all respect when he went on t.v. and said A) Brady would not start last year and his contacts were right and everyone else was wrong. B) Matt Cassel would not be traded due to the union and NFL getting invovled.

I've been to multiple training camp practices at Gillette. I can tell you that Law Firm is consistently practicing with the #1 offense in drills, and I don't think it's simply to save Maroney as if he's guaranteed the starting spot.

Funny part is, Maroney ran better than him last night, so why would this come up?

Maroney loses fumbles and doesn't protect the QB well. He is also injury prone. You didn't notice all that in his 5 carries last night?

I'm sorry, but from what I saw, Taylor was the one working with 1st string most of their reps.

The way I saw it, in the sessions I attended, the first four (Taylor, Maroney, Morris, and Faulk) are set. BJGE, Clayton, and C. Taylor are fighting for the 5th spot.

If you recall, BJGE got a lot of rep in the first half, then it was a mixture of Clayton and Taylor getting reps in the 2nd half.

So my guess is that this is for evaluation purpose.

I really don't think BJGE is being showcased for a trade because Taylor and Morris are injury prone. Why would you trade the one RB who has been in the system two years, and who has clearly shown improvement, that hasn't been hit by the injury bug?

    No logic in that.

Yeah that's what I thought too when I saw BJGE with the 1's. I haven't heard of him practicing with the first team in any of the camp reports, not that it hasn't happened I just don't recall reading about it.
