Its obvious we can move the ball and score against the best defenses the NFL has to offer.

But can we beat teams with top notch offenses? So far the answer has been yes. But its been very VERY close on two occasions (San Diego and Indy). The shootout with Buffalo didnt look good, and neither did the game vs. Detroit until the 4th Qtr.

Come playoff time I think we own the teams with good D's. Pitts, NYJ, Baltimore (we improved so much since our last game with them).

The potential problem teams I see are the Saints, Eagles, Colts, and Chargers (if they make it).

I agree that teams with top notch offenses will give us bigger problems than anyone else but isn't that always the case?

I am confident in this young playmaking D. I am confident that they will cause a game changing turnover and the Pats top of the top notch offenses will make the opponent suffer by scoring a TD.

Probably the Colts or the Chargers, maybe the steelers and ravens if they can figure our offense out.

the colts and chargers can hang with us in scoring, peyton manning in particular is capable of putting up 30 on us.

really no team is going to be easy in the playoffs, but if we wrap up the #1 seed, our first week we will have 2 weeks to prepare for a home game.

the patriots have already beaten almost everyone they could potentially face in the afc.

if he patriots got to the superbowl, id be worried about the eagles, falcons and saints, maybe the packers if they get healthy.

The only 2 teams that scare me at all is the Ravens and the Colts. We have Pitts number, JEST, KC, SD, or JAX at home will be blowouts. Peyton might have some recievers back by then(if they make the playoffs)and the Ravens came up here and beat us bad last year, they will have no pressure and both a decent offense and defense.

Chargers scare me in terms of getting a pass rush. The colts scare me because they might get calls from the refs.I also worry about the ravens as well because i am sure they wanna play us.

Im actually hoping the Chiefs win the rest of their games and take that division!

Rather face the colts than the chargers again. But we will be at home so that is always an advantage!

the only teams that worry me are the teams who could throw for 450 yards against us and win 42-35 or something. if we have a weakness that can be exploited, it's the secondary

(yeah yeah we have looked better the last 2 weeks, but 1 was vs an awful Jets pass offense and the other was in a blizzard vs a mediocre pass offense. where almost all offenses (besides ours) fail)

we haven't yet shown an ability to be able to slow down a good passing offense. Rivers threw for 336, the Colts put up points, the Bills put up points, etc

so, the Chargers, Colts, Saints, and Eagles

The biggest threat to a patriot SuperBowl is the play of the patriots. This team is clearly capable of winning easliy if we play our best. The issue is that we must play at a top level for three games in a row.

Obviously, this can be done. It is just as obvious that the team can beaten on a day where they are not at their best.

I dont know how anyone would be worried about Manning in Foxboro in January....especially with their defense.

Honestly. There is nothing to worry about from the other 31 teams in the NFL. If the Patriots play complete games like they showed against the Jets and Bears, nobody will beat them. They key is for them to continue to play consistently and improve week to week and to STAY HEALTHY. By the time the playoffs start they could be a well oiled destroying machine. Think how scary that would be for the REST OF THE NFL!?

I think people are really underestimating Atlanta here... they have just as good a record of us but are flying under the radar and just winning... I am sure the organization will pay them all the respect they deserve but atm they are (along with us) the team to beat.

    AFC: SD
    NFC: NO

SD might not even make the playoffs. I really don't see how we can have trouble with any of the contenders in the AFC -- mostly because we already beat all of them, but I felt we played poorly in SD.

NO, ATL, PHI are all very good. PHI plays pretty inconsistently, in my opinion, but when they are firing on all cylinders it almost seems impossible to stop. I think that their receivers would be a tough match-up for us - along with QB scrambles, I don't think we've been very aware or good at covering these (but then again, who is?). I don't watch ATL or NO games very much, but I do think Brees and company can match NWE point for point, this type of game will probably be decided by a costly turnover/mistake or ST brilliance.

i remember this one time thinking the pats were invincible and then i cried and cried.

in the AFC im worried about baltimore, and pittsburgh could conceivably get hot and start knocking brady on his @ss and make things look like SB42. in the NFC, wow....there are a lot of teams that could give the pats a run. the Eagles don't really worry me, i don't think Vick can handle a Belichick defense. but the Falcons and Saints can. probably the Saints are the toughest matchup on that side of the divide.

I would also consider Eagles a threat. Vick and Jackson have lots of speed, hopefully our D can maintain discipline and contain those two. Or hopefully someone else in the NFC knocks them out :)

I could not agree more. The Pats have a more balanced offense than I've seen in a long long time (BJGE may end up over a thousand for the season), and the defense lately has put to rest the early-season doubts. I would love to have the time to compare second-half-of-season stats vs season-to-date stats for our defense. I'd bet that our defense is in the top 10 overall in the past 6 games vs the rest of the league. Takeaways, scoring, yards against, this D has improved beyond my best hopes.
With the coaching staff we have, I have few reservations that this team will make the trip to Texas. Unless the Pats beat themselves.

I agree, at this point we are in the same boat as the 07 team, Brady might have started too slow to break records but as of now he is at his best. The only way we lose is if we pull a SB like the last and just stop trying, if we play to win and not act c ocky we should dominate and score 35+ in the next 7 games.

Good post ,let me just add this:
I agree that top offences like NO and SD are a challenge for "Bend but don't break" but I have seen much more than that lately as this young defense matures and lives the " We each are responsibile for all" philosophy. Our youth are becoming great football players. In this system they are challenged physically and intellectually and I can't imagine wanting to play anywhere else in the NFL. The Patriots orginization is like the top graduate school of football. Watching new players like Woodhead pick up and adopt Bill's philosophy and talk to the press like a very seasoned professional makes me aware of the positive growth that permeates this team. Chicago has a potent offense and Cutler can throw 4 touchdowns in a game, yet we disarmed them effectively. Brady quoted Bill and was humble and wise with this; "When you lose say little, when you win say less." Go Pats!

Superbowl? We're not even in the playoff yet. I think we need to slow down a bit.

The only team that worries me is the NO Saints. They're very talented, but they have something most other teams outside of NE don't - a damn good coach. But if we make it far enough to worry about them, I'll like our chances.

I absolutely agree with your analysis.
All this talk about the Patriots being SB favs is very premature.
Love what I see but this D remains very young and this O is a Deoin Branch injury away from having a significant hole in the offense.
Let's just take one game at a time and go from there.
I refuse to think ahead. Too many potential landmines.

Actually we are... First team to clinch a spot. What we haven't clinched yet is the Division or a bye or HFA - although we're the leaders in the clubhouse.... Those should be the focus for now.

I don't think the Colt's are much of a threat to us, maybe the Chargers are. I think the only threat is in the possible teams we could be facing for the Superbowl. Falcons, Saints...
