The NFL brass will now have to smarten up. After 3 years of allowing the conflict-of-interest members (head coaches Dungy, Fisher etc.) of the refereeing commitee to impose it's self serving will on the rest of the league, we witnessed the final insult in Sunday's Super Bowl. After a disastrous post season for NFL refereeing, we once again saw penalties called on a team (Seattle) for infractions that would not qualify for fouls in an NBA basketball game. The Tony Dungy-led charge to turn the NFL to to a touch football sport has back-fired, and now look for the NFL next year to allow a return for more physical play and a directive order for a reduction in penalty flags thrown.

Something along these lines BETTER happen. Thanks Polian and the Colts, you are partially responsible for this!

We can only hope. The fan reaction to the Super Bowl should serve as a wake up call.

I agree. I think the fact that the post-game talk has been about the refereeing says it all. I'm sure that the Steelers would rather have won without such blatantly bad penalty calling. They must be quite resentful that people think that the refs helped them to win it, after they had put in the very hard work on the training ground, in the gym, in the classroom and on the field for all of those years. I really did not want the Steelers to win, but it is sad that something will be taken away from their victory because of such bad refereeing, not to mention the fact that it may have had a bearing in changing the result anyway. We will never know, though.

There is such a contradiction in that it is OK to cut block someone who might not see you coming, with the obvious potential for injury, and the officious calling of the Pass Interference rules.
