Please post your comments regarding before, during, and after the Patriots Day 1 draft on this thread.

As always the Draft Forum is open for specific threads about specific draft discussion threads that you may want to start.

Tonight the Patriots have picks #17 and #28. Most people anticipate that the Patriots will try to either trade up or down or both. Some mock are showing the Patriots taking a QB in the 1st round to use as trade bait to other teams.

    Should be an interesting night.

Why take added risk and make a complicated situation even more complex?

Over at a Cowboys message board, they are speculating that a Cowboys-Patriots deal would be #17,60,125 and they are up in arms. Imagine that, getting Cam Jordan or julio Jones and still having 28,33 and the two thirds!

Still can't believe the Panthers are going to pick Newton. Such a bad pick. Go and pick A.J Green or Dareus and next year hope for some Luck.

just to go on the record I am not in favor of a WR in the 1st round. would not be happy if they traded up to get a Jones, now a Quinn, Jordan or Peterson or an OL I am there.

    Pats have this going in...

    R1... 17th...950pts
    R1... 28th...660pts
    R2... 33rd...580pts
    R2... 60th...300pts
    R3... 74th...220pts
    R3... 92nd...132pts
    R4... 125th...47pts

For example 17th, 60th and 125th gets Pats just 50 pts shy of the 'value' of Dallas' 9th pick, not that trades are exact...

Point is...it won't take much for the Pats to move from 17th to the low teens if their guy is there and most importantly, a willing trade partner is there.

    No Jersey Selected

See, that's the thing. They can go up, grab the guy they really want, and still have plenty to work with (I still think they trade 28 and/or 33 even if they trade into top 10.) And they're dealing from such a position of strength that they'll be able to get good deal if they do trade up.

Tedy on ESPN this afternoon, made a point that I've been thinking for some time. It's now time for the Patriots to spend some of that draft capital on impact players.

Tedy said that the Patriots were an old team a couple of years ago but now could become "too young" drafting 9 players. One or two impact play makers is what they need now

So I have no problem with them trading up to get play makers this year.

I'd make that deal in a heartbeat if the top of the draft falls the way most expect it to. The Patriots can trade down with #28, #33, or both and get back any picks lost in this deal. They need a difference maker with their first pick and I would love to see them go get one.

Actually its a bit of a disaster, people are saying teams would want to trade for the Pats #28 pick to pick up a late 1st round QB...now they can just trade for Kolb or Palmer, etc

Agree completely with Tedy. Get the 2-3 guys who can make a difference while Brady is still playing.

I think that's the 3rd speculative rumor flying around out there today regarding the Pats trading up. Someone is the master of disinformation.

    #1: Browns for the 6th
    #2: Tennessee for the 8th
    #3: Cowboys for the 9th

Well, it may work out absolutely swimmingly for the Patriots. Rumors have 5 QBs going in the top 12 picks, which would allow the Patriots to move up if they choose to, without necessarily requiring them to move up as high as they normally would have needed to. That would make the moves just as fruitful, and less expensive, both in terms of draft picks and in terms of rookie contracts.

I'm in the trade up to low teens to get their guy who slipped down camp. NOT buying a trade up for the 6th or 9th.
