I did a little digging out of curiosity and this is what I found out about Coors Field's Humidor.

The idea behind its construction is that it wasn't the climate influencing a pitched or batted ball directly; but that the balls were being made lighter and harder and more difficult to grip by being stored in this climate. An extra light, extra hard ball that the pitcher can't get to move because he can't grip it properly is what led to so many home runs, not so much the lack of air resistance.

Its set to 70 degrees F and 40% Relative humidity as opposed to the city's averages which are about 60 and 10% During Baseball season.

That 70/40 standard came straight from MLB/Rawlings specs. The league holds Rawlings to pretty strict tolerances for the size and weight of Baseballs; but only when the balls are acclimated to the 70/40 climate.

It'll hold 500 dozen balls (should be just enough to contain Manny and Papi for three games:D )

Its been operating since 2002. The league first punished the Rockies when they discovered that they were using it without permission; but they've come around and now simply monitor it closely. The consensus is that this will become a league-wide standard in time.

The stats point to it being a good thing for Baseball played at Coors. Power numbers for games played at Coors are much more in line with all other games and the Rockies players' home/away splits are more like every other team's.
