Carolina looks like they are going to get the 1st overall pick.
They have a tough schedule the remainder of the season and they have a
ton of injuries.
I remember last year there was a lot of trade talk around that Rams top
2nd round pick prior to day 2 of the draft.
I would not be suprised to see Belichick trade that pick to a poor team for a
1st in 2012.
There are always a couple of players who slip into the 2nd round who
were ranked in the top 20 prior to the draft.
Huh! I could've sworn it was in here that somebody else brought this up, yesterday, but I can't find it...Maybe it was at the other Site.
In any case: Excellent idea for a Thread.
What I'm sure you're thinking about, when you bring this up, is the 2009 trade between the Jets and Lions, where the Lions traded the first pick of the second day of the draft ~ the first pick of the 3rd Round ~ after the Jets had had all night to
work themselves into a lather about it.
The Lions traded #65 to the Jets for #76, #115, and #228, if I have it right.
As a Lion Fan ~ I have about a
dozen Surrogate Teams
~ and as a Jet Hater, I was delighted about the trade ~ which was the Jets going after HB Shonn Greene, you'll recall ~ but I must admit that I was surprised, just now, at how
little a Premium the Jets payed, at least according to The Grid:
The Grid!!
265 points for 277 points. Not a rich Premium at ALL.
Even so: I believe that the true impact of such trades
far exceeds the values suggested by The Grid: Depth of Talent is an utterly vital component of The Championship Quest, one that
Coach Bill The Mad has repeatedly shown that he has mastered, and whose true Import is yet to be appreciated, I believe.
The continued shockingly stellar play of
QB Ryan FitzPatrick, the surprisingly scrappy tenacity of the Bills, themselves, the emotional boost of finally getting that first win...and the dire road ahead for the Panthers, as you point out...definitely paints us as a prime candidate for that CatBird position.
It's a very interesting subject,
indeed.
