Those picks are gone. They ain't coming back. I needed to cool off. Calm down. Hit the showers... F*ck that.
What is this loss gonna of a first gonna cost NE I thought. Checked the career value of a late first via the Harvard study. We're looking at a career value of 2x better than average at that draft position. Well that's not good. Hmm, but its only better than average, so the difference is like losing an average joe from your line up. 1/53 worse over 4 seasons. Shiity, but ok I can handle that. But then I thought, what's the value compared to salary implications.... wait a second...
I guess I CAN calm the F*ck down! Suck it Goodell.
Late firsts get 8M over 4 years, or 2M per year. Give BB an extra 2M per year, add to that ex-players like Spikes and Fletcher and other savvy vets beggin' to come back to the fold and play for the team, and BB will more than make up for the loss of a 2x player. **** he just signed both those guys for that same amount in fact. And I'd say they in tandem are much better than what a typical late 1st round 2x player at 2x cost with none of the risk will provide (as they should). Kinda like 2, 1.2x players for 2.4x vs. 1 at 2x cost so to speak. Now he just has to do it for the next 4 seasons too. And BB will.
Suck it again Goodell.
This is just an example for this season - these 2 players equal to or better than the price of 1 2x player. Both LBs are on 1yr deals I think. I'm just saying with 2M a year extra to spend, and the aura of BB and NE victories drawing them back, BB should be able to get pretty close to that missing 2x value with one, two or more players in FA. It's not like we lost the cap space. BB will make up for that. I'd even venture to speculate BB is probably sharper at evaluating existing NFL talent than projecting rookie talent all things equal.
So I'm over that late first. The cap saving FA impact will more than make up for loss. Now that 4th on the other hand, a 0.6x player, at only 650K ... Naw, JK, same thing there. BB uses the cap saving to find comparable players.
Suck it hard a third and final time Goodell.
