Have you ever been down there? Its a fairly progressive city with a lot of nice people.
I used to travel the country on business. FWIW, Dallas was my least favorite major city to visit. (Tulsa, Oklahoma was the worst small city, by a mile. Holy smokes could I not get out of there fast enough. Someday I'll tell you about the cab driver who spent the whole trip from the airport proudly declaiming on how local law lets you shoot on sight anybody who walks up to your door.)
I will admit that Bostonians aren't friendly in the least. Dallas folks are friendly, but it's a pushy kind of friendly, like they're always ready and eager to go the extra mile to help you do things their way. While I'm on a regional stereotype roll I'll add that West-Coast folks are cheerfully polite but never get too close...the opposite of New Yorkers, who have the rudest exteriors and the warmest hearts. But for all-around warm, neighborly friendliness, the winners in my book are the rust belt folks: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Milwaukee.
