Seems our friend Brandon Tate
:wha:
I REALLY don't ever recall Tate being "our friend"
Just a burden we had to deal with really.

He caught zero passes last year. Zero. He made Ocho look productive. He won't be starting - and on the off chance he does it won't be for long.
I'm pretty confident that job will go to one of their new guys. Tate just isn't very talented.
Tate a starter...HA
Tate was lousy in New England. He was a complete non-factor for the Bengals as a receiver last year. He has 24 receptions in 3 seasons.
This is just coach speak on a team with only one 'name' receiver, trying to get guys going. If Tate becomes the team's WR2, that'll be a sign that the Bengals won't be repeating last season's success.
If Brandon Tate is starting at WR for anyone, then all that that will mean is that they probably have the worst receivers in the NFL.
You'd expect at least a little improvement, though. Tate did the exact opposite. He went from 400 yards to 0.
Brandon Tate was #1 in the NFL in punt and kick returns with 93 in 2011 (51 kickoffs - #1 in the league and 42 punt returns).
Brandon Tate was #2 in the NFL in kick and punt return yards with 1,541 yards.
Brandon Tate was #2 in the NFL in punt return yards with 543l.
Brandon Tate was #5 in the NFL in kick return yards with 998.
Brandon Tate was not a wide receiver in 2011. Use your heads.
1,541 total yards of production in 2011. Good for him.

He caught no passes last year with the same coaches. You figure it out.Hey, BelichickFan,
I'm glad you know so much about the Bengals players and coaches who evaluate them.
I would certainly be in agreement with those who would be shocked to see Tate starting this year, but that said, it's never out of the realm of possibility that a player who doesn't produce in our read/react timing system could possibly go on to contribute in another kind of totally different offense altogether.
The past pattern hasn't been very good with our WR castoffs, but there are always a variety of reasons why maybe a player isn't working out in this specific system.
If Tate ends up as even a viable WR3 this year, then more power to him, but he obviously wasn't getting it here, that's for sure.
...what?
I honestly can't even think of a response to that.
It's common sense. Someone pointed out how Tate had soooo many kickoff returns last year. So? The amount of kickoffs a kick returner receives DOES depend on how often said team allows the other team to score, thus causing them TO KICKOFF to their KICK RETURNER. It's not rocket science.
He also had the 2nd most PR yards, I guess his team stopped a lot of drives.
Tate was #3 in the NFL in total number of kickoff returns, and #1 in the NFL in total number of punt returns. His kickoff return average of 23.8 was only .1 yards more than Edelman's, and his punt return average of 10.6 was the same as Edelman's.

Surprised to see Joe McKnight with a 31.6 average...i knew he had a few runs but damn...
I wish BB could find an upgrade for us this year.
It likely will be Edelman, who won't be needed as much as he was last year and can focus on his role playing and special teams.
I believe that he is dangerous and shifty in space, and should allow us to have a better YPA on kick returns to go along with his punt returns.
McCourty is also a possibility, but the danger lies in increasing his chance at injury, especially with kickoffs being more violent.
Shane Vereen is another good possibility, and maybe there will even be a darkhorse candidate who emerges in TC at another position.
One way or another, I believe that the KR game will certainly be improved, and that the PR game will be sufficient as well, with Edelman continuing to take the duties there.
Edelman is just average imo. How often do Woodhead and Edelman break out for more than what you expect of them(getting that 10 yards or back to the 20 yard line)? With our offense i guess BB is more concerned about guys who are reliable...even though Edelman has made some weird decisions back there and Woodhead chose to fumble the ball at the worst possible time.
If Moss had been retained in 2010, Tate would have been in the 40-50 catch, 600 yard, 4-6 TD range.
That would be feasible working with AJ Green.
Add in return duties and that's productive.
Despite what the idiot cackle box wants to post, the reality is the did help win games with the Miami and Minnesota games coming to mind.

Edelman is an excellent punt returner and the blocking on kickoff returns last year was subpar. I think people are overrating the kick returner. He's not going to get far when there's already getting contact between the 15-20 yard lineEdelman is just average imo. Did he not share the field with AJ Green in 2011? Why wasn't he in the 40-50 catch range?
He was too busy being in the 0 catch range...
