    Last time I looked,the Bengals don't have Welker,Lloyd,Branch,and Gaffney

Do you really think Tate would have toppled above those 4 WRs?

Outside of Green, the Bengals have a Meh WR Corps so it's logical that with little depth,Tate rises up the ladder.

I see Marvin Jones more of a threat to land the outside WR spot. Sanu is kind of slow and may be better suited backing up Shipley in the slot.

As for Tate, I'd love to see him get one more solid oppurtunity at a starting WR spot. I'll be routing for em :rocker:

Tate played very well in the role that Deion Branch subsequently assumed prior to the Randy Moss trade in 2010. He had a very high completion % rate through the first 4 games. Then the Pats traded Moss and traded for Branch, gave Branch Tate's intermediate role and made Tate the "deep threat".

Cincinnati already has a very good young WR to stretch the field in AJ Green. If they are using Tate as more of an intermediate area #2 receiver, I think he could be very solid. He's a nice kid - hope he succeeds, particularly if it's at the expense of the Ravens and Steelers.

He caught zero passes last year. Zero. He made Ocho look productive. He won't be starting - and on the off chance he does it won't be for long.

Highly doubt he'd make this roster, though I used to be a big fan of his. He's not even that good a KR anymore, didn't crack top 15 last year in KR avg. After the Miami game in '10, he was a nonfactor as a returner. Not a very good WR

Tate was lousy in New England. He was a complete non-factor for the Bengals as a receiver last year. He has 24 receptions in 3 seasons.

This is just coach speak on a team with only one 'name' receiver, trying to get guys going. If Tate becomes the team's WR2, that'll be a sign that the Bengals won't be repeating last season's success.

Or maybe it was the system. Some receivers, even ones with very good NFL careers (e.g. Joey Galloway) aren't cut out for the Pats system of reading the defense and reacting, rather than running a "7" or an "8" or a "9" pattern which is more common in other systems.

If Brandon Tate is starting at WR for anyone, then all that that will mean is that they probably have the worst receivers in the NFL.

You'd expect at least a little improvement, though. Tate did the exact opposite. He went from 400 yards to 0.

So the Bengals let other teams score a lot. What does that have to do with Tate?

I agree with many and want to add to many that I would like to say I have confidence that Marvin Lewis will make the right decision. I'd like to say that, but I try to not lie.

Tate's a good returner. He's a specialist, and that's good- I'm glad that he's succeeding in his role. He's also a crappy wide receiver.

I would certainly be in agreement with those who would be shocked to see Tate starting this year, but that said, it's never out of the realm of possibility that a player who doesn't produce in our read/react timing system could possibly go on to contribute in another kind of totally different offense altogether.

The past pattern hasn't been very good with our WR castoffs, but there are always a variety of reasons why maybe a player isn't working out in this specific system.

If Tate ends up as even a viable WR3 this year, then more power to him, but he obviously wasn't getting it here, that's for sure.

    My Jersey:

If Moss had been retained in 2010, Tate would have been in the 40-50 catch, 600 yard, 4-6 TD range.

That would be feasible working with AJ Green.

Add in return duties and that's productive.

Despite what the idiot cackle box wants to post, the reality is the did help win games with the Miami and Minnesota games coming to mind.

Tate would definitely not make our roster this year (especially considering he didn't even make it last year).

That being said, he still was productive in 2010 and I see him earning a spot on the Bengals roster.

It's common sense. Someone pointed out how Tate had soooo many kickoff returns last year. So? The amount of kickoffs a kick returner receives DOES depend on how often said team allows the other team to score, thus causing them TO KICKOFF to their KICK RETURNER. It's not rocket science.

He also had the 2nd most PR yards, I guess his team stopped a lot of drives.
