I see Marvin Jones more of a threat to land the outside WR spot. Sanu is kind of slow and may be better suited backing up Shipley in the slot.

As for Tate, I'd love to see him get one more solid oppurtunity at a starting WR spot. I'll be routing for em :rocker:

Tate played very well in the role that Deion Branch subsequently assumed prior to the Randy Moss trade in 2010. He had a very high completion % rate through the first 4 games. Then the Pats traded Moss and traded for Branch, gave Branch Tate's intermediate role and made Tate the "deep threat".

Cincinnati already has a very good young WR to stretch the field in AJ Green. If they are using Tate as more of an intermediate area #2 receiver, I think he could be very solid. He's a nice kid - hope he succeeds, particularly if it's at the expense of the Ravens and Steelers.

He caught zero passes last year. Zero. He made Ocho look productive. He won't be starting - and on the off chance he does it won't be for long.

Highly doubt he'd make this roster, though I used to be a big fan of his. He's not even that good a KR anymore, didn't crack top 15 last year in KR avg. After the Miami game in '10, he was a nonfactor as a returner. Not a very good WR

Tate was lousy in New England. He was a complete non-factor for the Bengals as a receiver last year. He has 24 receptions in 3 seasons.

This is just coach speak on a team with only one 'name' receiver, trying to get guys going. If Tate becomes the team's WR2, that'll be a sign that the Bengals won't be repeating last season's success.

I'm pretty confident that job will go to one of their new guys. Tate just isn't very talented.

Tate is more of a special teamer then a starting WR....

This.

OTA's are one thing.

Excellent point Mayo.

If Brandon Tate is starting at WR for anyone, then all that that will mean is that they probably have the worst receivers in the NFL.

Chad OchoCinco was productive there too, even in his last season in Cincy.

Because a guy can play tic-tac-toe doesn't mean he can play chess.

Especially since he was an IR redshirt when drafted. Some say most WRs need three years to reach their potential.

You'd expect at least a little improvement, though. Tate did the exact opposite. He went from 400 yards to 0.

Brandon Tate was #1 in the NFL in punt and kick returns with 93 in 2011 (51 kickoffs - #1 in the league and 42 punt returns).

Brandon Tate was #2 in the NFL in kick and punt return yards with 1,541 yards.

Brandon Tate was #2 in the NFL in punt return yards with 543l.

Brandon Tate was #5 in the NFL in kick return yards with 998.

Brandon Tate was not a wide receiver in 2011. Use your heads.

1,541 total yards of production in 2011. Good for him.

So the Bengals let other teams score a lot. What does that have to do with Tate?

...what?

I honestly can't even think of a response to that.
