I imagine he is. I think a vet pick-up (Huard?) would be the clip-board-holder's jock-mule.

Bill's moves at QB in the last 10 years have proven you must develop your own QB talent if at all possible and have them ready.

Brady was #2 after one year.
Cassel was #2 after one year.
O'Connell was #2 last year, and will be #2 this year.

If they bring in a vet, it'll be to mentor O'Connell, not to be the #2.

They have another QB on the roster. He looked good in limited time last preseason.

Always forget about Matt Guitterez. Yep we are set. 3 Qb's who all have had time in the system.

I happen to like Matt myself, but i get jumped on for some reason for mentioning him, so I just thought I'd throw it out there.:D

Two years in the system and looked great against the backups of other teams in limited action.

Can't help but thinking, the Pats liked Brady and drafted him in the sixth round.
The Pats liked what they saw in Cassel and drafted him in the seventh round.
The Pats just couldn't pass up on O'Connell with the 'third' pick in the draft.
Not saying he'll be better then the other two, but dang!

I do not. His arm is weaker than Pennington's. I think we are set with Brady, O'Connell and Matty G.

My guess is BB finds some vet for training camp/preseason to mentor the young guys but cuts him after the last exhibition game. Maybe it'll even be Vinny T. again.

Right, given Bill's historical frugality with past QB picks, I'm thinking Belichick must think that O'Connell's ceiling is a John Elway type skill set with Montana's vision and clutchess and Brady's leadership

Or, more simply, 2007 Brady as a passer + 2008 Cassel as a rusher. ;)

We'll probably pick up a vet backup QB after cutdowns. But I think right now that the Pats focus on acquiring the big pieces - IE Secondary help and an OLB to replace Vrabel.

Not really. I can budge off of #3, but 2 1/2 is my best and final offer.

I really trust in Kevin. I think he ll be the Steve Young of tom Brady . Or at least, a good talented player.

Sums it up nicely. We had 3 QBs with 0 starts last year. Now TFB is back, he is the vet mentor with O'C and Gutz. Maybe bring in another QB to challenge Gutz for the #3 whether it be a vet minimum or new PS material.

Let's go out and get Culpepper! He's better than Cassel. Oh wait...Detroit already signed him.

no........brady came in and was effective in his 2nd year......

cassel took a couple of more years, but didn't play in college........

no reason to believe that o'connell can't do close to the same.........

that said, a guy like huard could be useful for a pinch, but if brady if out for an extended period again, the pats will go with o'connell

Another thing to consider is that O'Connell is now used to getting #2 practice reps. I don't think Belichick will want to disrupt his development by making him a #3 now. Not making a judgement on how game-ready he is...just saying that you generally want your developmental players to get more opportunities, not less. Unless O'Connell is not the player they thought they were getting with a 3rd round pick, I see him as the #2.

Speaking of Detroit they are now forced to select Matt Stafford.

    Amazing.
