Well, after we cut both of our UDFA's in Jones and Watson last week. We obviously don't seem to have any prospect on the roster who appears to be capable of being anywhere near a serviceable receiving TE. As of now we have-
Gronk
Hooman
Maneri
Williams
Develin (as a move type)
With Gronk I'm with everyone else on the board in hoping that Gronk will shake off the injury bug this year, but it just can't be denied that he can't be trusted to stay healthy until he proves to do so. Now, I think we've seen enough of the Hooman the last two years to know he is not much of a receiving target.. at all. (Despite having that sweet catch in Miami last year.)
Maneri just sucks, he really does.
As for Williams, see Maneri. While size wise he looks like he has the form of a receiving TE, it's just not all there for him.
Now I understand the last few weeks it appears Bill has emphasized the move/blocking TE position with signing Harstock and Maneri recently, and also by moving some of the O-lineman into TE positions on occasion during the games. Develin actually look like a pretty intruiging prospect for this role. But certainly it has to be put into consideration that we still need an insurance TE who's capable of being a receiver, no??
I know that Finley, with his settlement and money he's asking for and all, is long out of the question. But I do wonder if Keller is still an insurance option at this point for the team. I understand he was in contact with the team a month back, it could be interesting if he ends up getting signed around the start of the season in case Gronk isn't quite ready to go yet.
