Brady loses the fumble, Raiders win that game. Next year, Bledsoe gets his job back? What happens to Brady? What has he really done for the Pats in the year 2002 in that scenario? After all, he lost a playoff game by fumbling.
Sometimes the difference between greatness of all time and being a nobody are that slim.
Brady could have become a career backup really.
Agree with the content of your post, but its was BB's old boss, the Tuna, that he beat in the Jan. 1, 1995 playoff game. What Ray and most non Patriot Fans (or even younger ones) fail to realize is that Brady was going to supplant Bledsoe as the starter of that team sooner rather than later anyway.
It was a well known fact that Belichick was not a fan of Bledsoe from the beginning. He was a slinger who made poor decision’s with the football.
To add to it, Brady soared up the QB depth chart by intensely out working and out playing EVERYONE in practice. I lived a half mile from Bryant College at the time, and worked nights, so I rarely missed camp in those days (I was 21years old and the chicks were plentiful on that campus; living the dream)and I saw it with my own eyes. It was impossible to not notice being so close to the field. Now im not saying I thought he'd be TFB, but he did stand out...noticeably.
Please don’t take my word for it, go ahead and google some comments from players on the roster that year. Brady was winning over the locker room the same way he did at Michigan. Bill was heading towards another Kosar/Testerverde situation before Mo Lewis bailed him out with that hit. Once Brady got on the field, it was game over, even if the fans didn’t know it yet.
All you need to know about how much Bill thought of Drew as a player was spelled out when he traded him WITHIN the division!!
Heck the Browns last playoff win was in 1995.. I remember it well. Belichick confused the bejeezus out of Bledsoe and then coach… Pete Carroll.
Brady was never going to be a career back-up, frankly that's a shameful statement coming from a Patriots fan. He has a relentless drive that pushes him to succeed, to fight, to compete harder than most of us can even comprehend. You don't achieve what he has in this game by luck or happenstance. To say that is to discredit his life's work (up to this point).
And then NFL.com picks up on it and makes it a home page headline. Clicks ensue. The "writer" of the "story" ends with "I have no idea what Lewis is talking about/" Funny comments ensue. #news2015.ESPN does this all the time ... so that they become the story ... it's just for publicity.
Ray Lewis has praised Brady before he was with ESPN ... they are such ho's over there ...
ESPN is like WWE with a bit less drama in terms of hype to get attention.
I cannot believe that people still fall for this scripted drama ........
What Im trying to say is, with Ray's insane comment you can argue the tuck rule hurt Brady in the long run.
Brady might have been even MORE successful.
Maybe Brady would have had an even bigger chip on his shoulder
It's on NFL.com. I just heard the whole thing in its proper context. I don't like Ray Lewis.
Guy sounds pissed off the Ravens got their asses kicked. It was more aggressive than I expected considering his respect for Brady's game.
I'm not going to say he's wrong about the rule, but bad, post season changing calls happen in every play off tournament. `Face Guarding` helped Peyton get to Rex Grossman. Ben Roethlisberger beat the Seattle Seahawks in a game that looked straight up Black Sox rigged. If you go through the history of the play offs, you'll find an official who changed the course of a game, and thus NFL history.
The only reason the Tuck Rule is special, even though it was called before that night, and called plenty of times after, os because people are haters
New England got one nice break in the play offs, 14 years ago, and has done plenty since without one. Other teams have made out a lot better if we want to talk about bogus play off calls, and in more helpful places than the Divisional round.
