Re: Reported Patriots UDFA signings

This is the Patriots UDFA signings thread...:nono:

RavensInsider Aaron Wilson
Former Maryland TE Will Yeatman has agreed to terms with the New England Patriots.

At 6-6.3 270, 5.08 40, looks like a LT conversion more than a tight end. Stick him with Maneri, see which one can gain weight faster.

Re: Reported Patriots UDFA signings

the HERALD ran this story in April:

Should we just hand ex-lacrosse player Will Yeatman a Patriots jersey now?

If there is one lock in this NFL Draft, it’s that the Patriots will select at least one oddball player you’ve never heard of in the later rounds who will make an impact. Like seventh rounders WR Julian Edelman in 2009 and DE Brandon Deaderick in 2010.

So, I’m throwing out this year’s random selection right now: How about Will Yeatman?

As National Football Post points out, Yeatman is a 6-foot-7, 275-pounder with a 4.7ish 40-yard dash and a 28.5-inch vertical. He projects as either a blocking tight end or a future left tackle. The comparison the article makes is to former Temple tight end Steve Maneri… who is now a Patriots reserve tackle.

All that is fine and good. But that’s not the characteristic that figures to open Bill Belichick’s eyes. Nope, it’s one other thing — Yeatman is a former star lacrosse player. At Maryland, he was an All-American who was part of the U.S. National Team tryouts, though he’s now committed to football.

See? Belichick’s kinda guy. As NFP’s Wes Bunting writes, “The investment is marginal and the pay off down the line could be massive.“

Pats sign the 999th ranked player, DE Ryan Coulson, Nevada. 6'3 243 pounds.

Interesting in that he is also a LS. Would rather have a LS that can fill in the backend of the depth chart at a position of need (rush end) than dedicate a roster spot to a specialist.

Hopefully that job goes to TE Lee Smith

Another OLB prospect, Clay Nurse. Hopefully one of Carter, Silvestro, or Nurse can show something in preseason.

Colts had a good day.

Colts
Joe Lefeged (S, Rutgers)
Jake Kirkpatrick (C, TCU)
Chris Colasanti (LB, Penn State)
Mike McNeill (TE, Nebraska)
Scott Tolzien (QB, Wisconsin)
Adrian Moten (LB, Maryland)

At least that Bill isn't resting on his moldy laurels.

Re: Reported Patriots UDFA signings

Very happy about Mike Berry. He was one of my favorite guards last season. I also like Hix as a RT understudy. I think he has the potential to be better than significantly better than LaVoir.

While we all have our various favorites, I can't complain too much about the approach we've taken so far. We may not have brought in all my binkies, but we did add depth and competition for training camp. I'm satisfied. :)

Re: Reported Patriots UDFA signings

I like the Jeremy Ross signing. I'm pretty surprised he wasn't drafted, very productive in college. Good size, excellent speed. If he can be a better return man in the kickoff and punt return game than Tate and Edelman, those two can be saved from double duty and concentrate on learning to be wide receivers. While Ross can learn the passing game while being our main return man. IF he makes it of course. May be a practice squad guy for a year or so.
