Report: Pats interested in Umenyiora (merged many times)

Good, I hope the Jets trade for him, giving up players of value. I think this guy is on a very short time span in terms of his health, and would love for the Jests to fall for the hype.

But I don't want them to give up draft picks, because they mess those up anyway.

I figured this didn't deserve a new thread, but PFT is reporting that there are rumors that Umenyiora will be traded very soon. I doubt it will be the Pats if it happens (I don't see him ever playing for the Giants ever again), but he will likely be traded before the season starts.

I don't see the Giants trading to the Jets. There is a rivalry between the Jets and Giants because they share the same market. The Giants don't want Umenyiora being the missing piece in the Jets' Super Bowl title.

As for compensation, I would give up a second and a lower round pick if Umenyiora could be elite for two to three years. The Pats gave up a 3rd and a 5th for Derrick Burgess and Umenyiora is far, far better than Burgess was when the Pats traded for him. That said, I still don't see the Pats as the trade partner.

They are talking about a new deal with the Giants rumor based on he is coming back to practice after the specialist cleared him last week, not new trade rumors...

It’s possible that the scuttlebutt traces to the fact that Umenyiora is returning to practice without a new deal already in place. Unless he has undergone a dramatic change of heart, he wouldn’t cave without getting something from the team — especially since he declined the team’s offer to enhance the last two years of his current contract.

Any chance this gets re-visited? Giants look like a .500 team. Mike Wright hurt again for us. It's impossible to cover most decent NFL wr's with the rules restrictions. Seems the best way to slow a passing attack down would be to put more pressure on the qb. Osi would definitely help us there.

Any free safeties available? I'd consider that type of trade too.
