After the interviews with Belichick and Pioli, you know he is getting some insight from people who know.

    I'll match ... and raise.

Reiss is the only reporter in print or pix whom
    i believe.

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

Sold analysis, too bad not all who left a comment on his site were too thoughtful... Look at this boneheads remark, comment #2 by "Paula"..

"Moss sounds like he is being GREEDY is he forgeting when NO other team would take a chance on him The Patriots did. and now that they did give him that chance This is how he repays them Moss is greedy. And this is how he treats the Patriots ,"

I think it's disingenuous to act like the Patriots took a huge gamble on Moss and really went out of their way to get him, they acquired him in an outright STEAL, AND he restructured his contract and took a considerable paycut.....

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

I think he'll be back, but let's not be foolish here. The patriots will still be the patriots without Randy Moss. If he walks, it's his loss and he may never have another shot at a ring. The only person on the team who would lose out would be Brady, who has already said bye to Stallworth and Kyle Brady and probably doesn't know if Gaffney is coming back.

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

You know the 2nd comment makes a good point.

We gave Moss a chance when no one else would touch him with a 10 foot pole. We have him a chance to set records and play for a SB and basically resurrect his career.

Is that faith not worth some kind of discount?

Did Moss sign anywhere yet? Just wondering if I might've missed it.

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

Reiss' analysis makes a lot of sense.

Both sides took a chance last year. Moss restructured away several million dollars. The Patriots paid him several million dollars despite his "issues."

Both sides kept their part of the deal. Moss played like the player he used to be. The Patriots gave him a great opportunity on the field and paid him the money they agreed to pay him.

Now, it's a fresh start for both sides. Franchising him would not only have antagonized him, but it also would have been the "wrong thing to do," not that the Pats usually worry too much about the latter.

Moss is right to test the market but I believe he will be back in Foxboro this summer. My view is that he will play for the Pats for a "little less" than he could get elsewhere but not for a "lot less." It is unlikely that other teams will make him a bank-breaking deal because of his history.

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

dude, I know moss gives you a chubby, but he wasn't doing new england any favors, he did it for himself.
he restructured his contract and gave up millions because otherwise he'd still be rotting in oakland.
he chewed his own leg off to get out of there, and the pats were the ones throwing him a life preserver.
now, he commands top dollar and it's because brady threw him 23 td's.
nobody was talking about giving him this kind of money on the tail end of that woeful oakland stint.

frankly, I was about sick of hearing about randy moss a month ago.

    ps

the curious thing to me in all this, is why isn't he already signed up in jax if he didn't intend to come back to the pats?

Thanks. I couldn't find any Randy Moss threads, so I was just wondering.

    (sorry, just having a laugh)

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

It's actually relatively quiet here today. Monday, Monday, or people getting sick of it, or people just resigned to waiting for the process to work its way through? Some of each I suppose. I guess there was no comparable mania at Steelers boards about Roethlisberger because everybody assumed he was coming back. I am beginning to wonder though if Patsfans do freak more over free agency than any other team's fans.

You are like 12 hours ahead of us right? So if he signs tomorrow, you will be the first to know. It is up to You to let US know what is going on. So has he signed tomorrow or not?

I occassionally read others if links are provided here and are compelling enough to click on I'll check it out.

But consistently, Reiss is the guy. I have my RSS client tuned to his page for updates so new links show up right on my Windows Mobile phone.

I heard a nighttime sports talk radio program that wouldn't mention any names of reporters that weren't any good, but mentioned Reiss and one other guy from another part of the country as the premier sports reporters who have everyone's respect in the industry. They said there are likely many others in smaller markets that don't have the attention that these two guys had because the local teams weren't championship caliber, but it was high praise. I was mildly surprised as I thought he was our little secret.

    Re: Reiss:Moss situation analysis

How dare Reiss report that Moss is exploring options with other teams in search of more money?!!!!!

This is an outrage... watch out Mike... what you say might be common sense but people around here are gonna question your ethics and integrity for issuing an unsubstantiated report, especially when Moss is on the record with the Patriots saying he only wants to play here and that he's not looking to break the bank. ;)

Not that I'm surprised at all - Moss is a great player, especially when he's motivated by a new contract... and he certainly SAYS all the right things about only wanting to play here and not wanting top dollar... only to enter negotiations with the prospect that he's willing to play elsewhere for more money.
