psshh....scoff all you want, but the jets handed us our asses in that first game ---- and who was their team captain.....?
I disagree. The Jets were OK for one half of football. Had the Patriots played with any sense of connection that would have been done and dusted by the half. Brady was most un-Brady like in his second game back after the knee reconstruction.

So, depth chart now?

Tully Banta Cain
Jermaine Cunningham?
Pierre Woods?
Rob Ninkovich?
Shawn Crable?

Yikes, is the unheralded rookie, the undrafted free agent special teamer, or the third-year player with zero tackles the starter opposite the third-down specialist?

The days of Willie McGinest, Mike Vrabel, and Rosevelt Colvin are long ago now.

From some of the logic I've read on here, we're strenghtening our coverage to give our rushers extra time to get to the passer. It's kinda @$$ backwards, but it looks like that's the route we're taking.

Hey, if it works for Rex Ryan ...

And who played in the secondary on those teams most of the time?

Ty Law
Asante
Rodney
Randall Gay
Otis
Geno Wilson

All were good to superior cover men or playmakers in the secondary.

Unless you have a crazy good pass rush (85 Bears, 86 Giants, 2007 Giants is the best I have ever seen) then you need good cover guys to help with the blitz and 4-5 man rushes.

You don't get comp picks when you cut someone. Only if they leave via free agency.

Aw well, there goes that hope of getting something from his crap-o-rama...

It's a sum of all parts isn't it robertweathers. A bit of this and a bit of that equals the total.

Re: AD is out!

Not this one. Cut the be-atch.

I saw him in December at Spain in Warwick, RI. I didn't want to bother him during dinner so when he was leaving I got up and told him I'm a big Pats fan and wished him luck and just wanted to shake his hand. I stuck my hand out and hHe looked at me like I was wearing a Klan mask and kind of huffed and gave me a fist bump instead.

Later I found out that he had been sent home from practice that day for being late! He was drowing his sorrows in margaritas, the woman.

Complaining about getting a fist bump instead of a handshake seems pretty lame, especially on a day when the media was humiliating those guys with Belichick's complicity. How would you react if some stranger came up to you while Felger and Smerlas were on the TV behind the bar saying you were a major douchebag?

Too bad Adalius Thomas wasn't smart enough to step up that day and take responsibility to show a tad of leadership nor smart enough to learn the defense.

I think he'll do fine with Rex if that's where he winds up - straightforward defenses are more suited for him. My guess is he winds up in Buffalo, St. Louis or Detroit never to be heard from again.

good now maybe the pats can have at lest one starting OLB under 30 lol

With a stronger secondary we should see differenrt schemes esp with BB calling the shots. I think we'll see a vastly improved D this year.

Completely different set of rules post 2004 season after they emphasized the 5 yard no contact rule. Prior to 2005, DBs were allowed to mug receivers down the field and the refs especially let a lot of physical play go during the playoffs.

IMO, pass rushers are more important to pass defense than cover guys. My .02 cents.

It wasn't just the fist bump per se, it was the nasty look that went with it. It was so markedly different than any other meeting I've had with a Patriot, including the day after SB 42. And like I said, it's that plus all of the public info that makes me think he's a d-bag.

But no one ever said I wasn't lame.

O'Connell could very likely have cost us the 1st game against the Jets, and as we've seen in 08 it can only take 1 game in the division to cost you a shot to the playoffs.

Please explain to me why it's smart to let someone with intimate knowledge of your organization go and become hired by your nearest enemy.
Come on.

I guess we need to cut everyone now and only keep 53 players?

Why hasnt every team caught onto this stroke of genius.
Pick up a player cut by the other team, and guarantee a win.

Good riddance! We now have a cancer out of here and we've got some good chemistry going with this team, as of now that's what it looks like.

I get your point, but you arent selling me Rodney Harrision, Randall Gay, Otis Smith or Eugene Wilson as good to superior cover men. Thats laughable.
And Asante had as many medicore years as good ones here.

For their positions, Wilson and Harrison were pretty good, although Harrison remained with the team after that stopped being true.

I can accept that, but you said pretty good, not superior.

And Randall Gay and Otis Smith were among the worst flat out coverage corners in the NFL in their day.
Not that they were the worst corners, but if you ever asked them to cover a guy one on one they would get burned by 97% of the WRs in the league.

This is currently the lowest total salary allocated to the OLB position since at least 2002. That's a LONG time in NFL salary escalation terms. Total Pats cap then was about $75mm.

That's just because we didn't signed a big name FA (Colvin, AD)

Not quite factually correct.
We signed Tully Banta-Cain, with a first year cap charge of over $3mm.
That is well more than the front year cap charges for Colvin, close to the first year cap charge for AD.

This is currently the lowest-compensated group, and probably the least talent at the position in at least eight years.
