Don't mind me, just passing through ... ;) Can't say I'm not enjoying this, though. For what it's worth, Dartanyan, everything you're saying is on the mark, but as the old adage goes, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The problem is, it's not going to make a bit of difference. Take it from my experience. Been there, done that. Oh, one thing that might help with the perspective here: According to Bill's Girl, I am the "cancer/Terrell Owens/Ron Borges" of this messageboard. So you might want to take that into consideration before accusing her of paranoia.

Actually I have changed that just a tad....when it comes to talking about the Patriots and football in general you are a genius.....you make very good points and really, REALLY know your stuff; the Dr. Jeckyll, if I may say so. When it comes to MLB, the game of baseball in general and the Sox specifically, you morph into this ultra snotty, rude Mr. Hyde. The Ron Borges portion comes into play when you reveal confidential info about our HC that leads to him having to comfirm it publically. The cancer/TO portion comes into play when you accuse said HC of being clinically depressed without true medical knowledge of the man in question and then personally attacking me when I pointed out that you are not a doctor, you just play one on the board.....this is a joke.....insert laugh track here.

Moving on to Dartanian, if I spelled it wrong, I appologize. When you walked into this thread you also walked into the middle of an ongoing debate among us friends and neighbors on the board. Your words and opinions are a mirror image of Tunescribe, thus my joke at your expense about being an evil twin or a fictitious person. Since you are new, you did not know that you so closely mirror another poster. All of the threads started by PATSNUTme that you mentioned were an attempt to lighten up an otherwise sad, with the loss of Adam, Willie and David, and boring....no games, offseason. All except the porn star thread that was inspired by one of our wonderful new members who herself is a member of that industry. Check our Tyler's website, she is absolutely gorgeous!! And a great contributor to the board as well!

I was not calling you an elitist, I was saying that your opinion is in sync with my belief that people who are only Patriots fans think they are better than sox fans....your post proved my point as I do not know any sox fans who think liking the Patriots is cause for an exorcism and holy water sponge bath! Again that was a joke.....

Please accept my appologies.......tip your waitress, thank you, goodnight.

Conrats. You just made the team. I believe you have already met the HC/GM/Pres.

Enjoy.

*yawn* About what should be expected. When backed into a corner you can't get out of, resort to insults and name-calling. Who bought you that jersey, anyway? I hear the Panthers are going to be tough this year, by the way, and that Keyshawn is comfortable with his role at No. 2. Ever hear of him?

I'm finished with you.You are really starting to bore me.

I do look forward to all of those brilliant football threads that you'll be posting. Haven't seen one yet.

You know what the funniest thing is about this whole thing, Nut?? The fact that you are NOT a baseball fan! :D :D How is THAT for irony?

Well the whole point of the thread was the difference between the two fan bases. And, I did state that I didn't mean fans that were equal in their love for both. I understand that there are a lot of those.

Believe it or not, there were some good points made. But as usual, some people who should have just stayed out of it if they didn't have any interest, just had to jump in with their stupidity.

Good for you (sincerely, not sarcastic) for sticking that in there first. I hate it when two fellow PatsFans, whom I both like and enjoy, fight with eachother, it's worse when there's total disrespect on both ends. There was a tussle a while back that was just painful to watch between two of my faves... think it was Shemssy and DaBruins, or Dryheat, can't remember... it just kinda sucks though. Know what I mean?

Funny though, you'd never know that about Tune, IF baseball posts were kept in the baseball forum, which is his entire point to begin with.

PATSNUT (and others, he's just the most militant) has a hair across his ass about political posts in the football forum... I can respect that simply because it's clear that Ian set up that forum to keep political discourse out of this, the Football forum. And similarly, Tunescribe (and others, he's just the most militant) has a hair across his ass about baseball posts in the football forum, and like the political issue, I can respect that because clearly Ian set up that forum to keep baseball discussion out of here, the football forum. (No not this thread specifically, I was joking when I first said it should be moved to the Sox forum, this is obviously a better thread for the Gen Talk forum :D)

As an asside, I'm one of those Patriots-only fans. I truly do not believe I am better than you Red Sox/Patriot fans... not in any way, shape or form. I just wish people would keep their political garbage in the politcal forum and their Red Sox garbage in the Red Sox forum (or our new SoxTalk partner). Sure we all can ignore Sox/Political/OT threads in the football forum, but nobody does. Therefore, I think that troll posts, political posts, red sox posts, and OT posts in the football forum are all fair game to be "ruined" and trampled by others. And when it happens, sometimes I ignore, and sometimes I enjoy the carnage. :)

Bottom line, if you want your Red Sox thread to NOT have Tunescribe going all message board ninja on it, put it where he won't see it, in the Red Sox forum where it belongs. If you don't want PATSNUT going all message board nazi on your politcal thread, keep it where he won't see it, in the Political forum where it belongs. (No offense meant to either the ninja or nazi in question). And if I can't shake my habit to go Off Topic in the football forum (which I'm trying to improve) than by all means, rip me a new one too. :D

Cripes, I can't wait for football season. :rocker:

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall inherit the forums.

I cannot add any smilies or any thing because the "system' has told me the 5 max has been reached.

I agree. I made 2 or 3 great points myself.

To me the primary difference between the two is that football fans (especially long-term ones) have grown quite accustomed over the years to Red Sox fans who don't care about the Patriots.

On the other hand, it seems that when baseball fans encounter Pats fans who don't care about the Red Sox, there's sometimes a good deal of handwringing over how such a horrible thing could have happened.

pats playing outside of boston is a tremendous problem. i don't know if they'll ever become "beloved" if they don't come in.
pats fans are more direct, more physical people. john updike writes about redsox. studs terkel and jimmy breslin write about football. yeah ya can watch baseball in 20 degree weather, but ya can't hang in zero weather. baseball players can't even play in zero weather.
there's something about knowing the football game will be played, no matter what. not being sure about baseball if there's been n inch and a half of rain makes baseball a wuss sport, anyway ya cut it.
patriot fans have only two generations of history with the team. altho it's two hilarious generations, starting from day 1, it's still only baby boomer-to-child. redsox fans have, i dunno, 4-5 generations going here. grandfather's grrandfather. so redsoxfans are different in that way. patsfans, we gotta get it into the family bloodlines.

BTW you could think of me as jim ignatowski. i forget the topic, forget my point sometimes, still stuck in the '60s.. now maybe this thread is all an inside joke, and i've missed the point.
but i came here to talk football.
d'artagnan, i don't see one post from you that pertains to football. before you make comments about somebody 'misspelling' your name, learn to spell it y'self.

Is this what one might call a modified olive branch? Thanks, BG, I apppreciate it. I also appreciate your decision to edit "you freakin' moron" from one of your earlier posts in this thread addressing me. Are we progressing toward a new era of detente? Let's hope so! If I might address Nutso for a moment and this whole idea of posting off-topic nonsense to "lighten up" the football forum: It's not needed, not wanted, and not necessary! None of my objections have been personal in this regard, but it quickly heads down that path when someone who thinks he's funny but really isn't clutters the page with silly ephemera that dilutes and weakens the forum's impact. Ian was right in reinforcing the messageboard's need to keep subject matter in its pre-designated place. Anyone who wants a "levity break" can surely find it (or generate it) in the General Talk forum or elsewhere, where that kind of thing is welcomed by all. It's a breath of fresh air to sign on and see a football forum loaded with football-only posts. I believe the first page of this forum has something like 31 threads. Having to skip over four or five (or more) because of foreign subject matter is a distraction that I'm sure most of us would rather do without.

Only online could some sort of non-existant rivalry between Pats fans and Sox fans be conjured into existence. This thread is like a fight between those that like days off and those that like days when they don't have to go to work.

Give me a break. Days off are far better.

It is not often you get served up such a softball. I really debated with myself but in the end I couldn't resist.:D

(Male) Patriots fans are more likely to have a wife and kids. The Red Sox fan is more likely to be 35 and going to the game with his sister.

What is the difference between RED SOX fans and Patriots fans. I don't mean fans of both. I mean those who are primarily fans of one team or the other and then may have a slight interest in the other team.

I use to think that RED SOX fans were bigger whiners.

Maybe RED SOX fans might think that they are smarter and are more elitist? Are RED SOX fans more concerned with stats than football fans are?

With a few exceptions, I think there are certainly differences.

Would RED SOX fans go to games in the snow or wind chills down to zero?

Just thought I would ask the question.

You have way too much time on your hands lately ... this thread sucks dog meat.

3 vs. 2 (04 &7)

It was one at the time. 4-year gravedig...

But staying on topic, all I'm going to say is that baseball is a pitiful excuse for a sport and Red Sox fans piss me off just as much as Jets fans.
