Lots of NASCAR defense to make up for the lack of DTs and abundance of DEs, Armstead PUP/IR...Seymour is an obvious option at this point, none of the backup DTs looked good enough for the NFL on Friday.

QB (2) Brady, Mallett
RB (5) Ridley, Vereen, Blount, Bolden, Washington
WR (6) Amendola, Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, Edelman, Slater
TE (3) Fells, Hoomanawanui, Sudfeld

PUP/NFI (3): Gronkowski, Harrison, Armstead

-Tebow does not deserve a spot on the team unless he gets his **** together. Like someone posted in another thread, we haven't seen a worse QB in the preseason since Zac Robinson.
-Blount earned a spot Friday. Bolden could be on the bubble but I'm giving him a spot for now because of the potential he showed last year and the reports out of camp that he outperformed Blount.
-Fells beats out Ballard for a spot because he showed good hands Friday, but Ballard was the starter, which could mean something. It's a toss-up at this point. I don't think it's worth keeping 4 tight ends when exactly none of them are elite weapons.
-8 OL because of pressing needs elsewhere but I'd like to see Zusevics make it.
-Bequette is barely holding on due to his draft position, but if he falls near the bottom of the depth chart he's not safe.
-I think a fourth DT is mandatory, and it has to be someone who can back up Wilfork. The only two players on the roster in that mold are UDFAs Grissom and White, and I give the nod to White because I saw him getting more consistent pressure Friday, although Grissom got to play earlier in the game.
-Beauharnais looked pretty good out there, at least good enough to justify keeping him as a sixth linebacker.
-Really worried about the cornerbacks if any of the top three miss time, which is likely to happen at some point. Although Dowling will probably be injured forever, he's still a better option than Cole, who is absolutely terrible. Logan Ryan would not make the team based on his TC and Friday performance if he weren't a third round pick.
-Gregory is still bad, and Tavon appears to have taken a huge step back. Even with this recent development, Tavon's spot is probably safe for another year because of the potential he flashed last year and his draft position.
-I don't get why they haven't bothered bringing in competition for Gostkowski.
-I'm not predicting anyone will be taken off the PUP or NF-Inj list, because extrapolation is not my job.

Even Reiss and Yates are going super light on LBs (5) and OL (7) in favor of extra Safeties (6?) and RBs (5?). Maybe it's time for me to stop fighting the good fight.

In effect, Price gives the LB/ST spots to Ebner and Cole, along with giving a DB/DT spot to T Wilson. 12 DB's in truly an impressive number.

IMHO, the question is not WHETHER we are going have these 3 ST positions. The question is who.

A) The following are all in danger (we can only hope) of being beaten out by a free agent or an UDFA not listed: Zucevics (I'd rather a C/OG), Forston, Grisson and Buchanan.

Develin or Hooman might beat out one of the running backs, or could be Player 53.

Obviously, I would prefer Player 53 to be a better STer than Tebow. To me, that is a ST position and if Tebow is on the team, I would expect him to play special teams.

I suspect that most of us will find the final roster to have very, very few surprises, other than the names of players that come from other teams.

As I said in my post, I would be fine with Devlin or Hooman being Player 53.

This is the most I've ever agreed with someone else's 53 before. My current projection is exactly the same, except swap out Tebow for Hooman.

None of these four include Gronkowski or Armstead.

The biggest questions seem to be

1) whether we keep Tebow

2) what we do at DL and OL (obviously Buchanan, Forston, Zusevics, Kline and Grissom could be on the roster or just as easily replaced by free agents)

3) how many defensive backs do we carry (11 seems to be most popular at the moment)

Personally, I think that roster is pretty heavy on defensive backfield, at the expense of linebacker and tight end. Ebner, in particular, is a touch call - I'd get rid of Ebner, Hoomanawanui, and Tebow in favor of Fells, Gronk, and Koutouvides

-Armstead to PUP, but DT list is thin-wouldn't be surprised to see someone who gets cut from another team added here.
-I know we keep hearing that Tebow is making this team, and it may be true but I couldn't bear to include him--he's just that bad.
-I like the way Mike Rivera plays and would like to see him on this team--just don't see a place for him. Would be a good addition later in the season is someone gets hurt.

Negative!

2) what we do at DL and OL (obviously Buchanan, Forston, Zusevics, Kline and Grissom could be on the roster or just as easily replaced by free agents)
Buchanan, Forston should be kept on the 53 man roster. The rest are eligible for the practice squad. As for reinforcements, who knows.

10 - minimum, 12 - overkill

- How about Tebow as a future SS? College QB to NFL Safety is not unprecedented.

- Winn over both Blount & Bolden; time to give blocking & character a chance.

- Donald Jones would have replaced Jenkins had he not been released.

- Gronk to PUP, and Dallas Clark to Pats makes too much sense not to happen.

- Bequette's & Buchanan's upsides are greater than those of Cunnyham, Francis, Bernard or Vega,
but may the best 2 win anyway.

- AJ Edds is, as of now, our best coverage LB.

- If the overdrafted Wilson & Harmon show anything at all, then the overpaid & undertackling Gregory
becomes superfluous.

Glad this thread was bumped; and though I've made changes, I'll likely make more of them one week from now.

Tebow's "performance" last week, and his non-use at any other position, removes him from the roster.

Blount's been more impressive than Bolden, and Winn could replace Bolden on STs/FB.

David Thomas replaces Dallas Clark on my Move TE #2 wish list; I'll keep Gronk on PUP for now.

Thompkins replaces Jenkins at WR; still would like to see a vet with size here too.

I could in good faith place only 7 OLmen on the roster (the rest suck), so I've saved a spot for
a yet-to-be-named vet C/G (perhaps a healthy Nick McDonald, though I'd rather someone better).

I've also saved a spot for a vet DT, because having both Forston & Grissom is redundant;
Edit: Armstead to PUP/NFI.

Benard's been playing a lot of snaps, Bill likes Francis, and Buchanan wouldn't clear waivers.
Cunnyham to IR and Bequette to PS.

LBs are a no-brainer: Koutou, Rivera & Tarp suck, and Beauharnais wouldn't clear waivers.

Glas-IR stays for now, and Dennard's still not in jail yet.

Neither TWilson nor Harmon has played well enough to remove Gregory, so sadly all 3 stay.
Edit: Ebner is IRed, or waived if he is PS-eligible.

And Mesko has out-played Allen, or Allen has under-played Mesko.

Order is not relative to what I think the starters will be.

3) how many defensive backs do we carry (11 seems to be most popular at the moment)

10 - minimum, 12 - overkill

I agree with the idea of a minimum of ten. Injuries happen within this group, plus you tend to find a lot of your special teamers from the safety and corner positions.

Which led me to be a bit surprised at this comment from Zuri Berry in his roster prediction today; he has only nine defensive backs.

Considering the team has kept only four safeties in the past three years, it would be a stretch to add one more now.
