I have found that getting too caught up in the pursuit of schadenfreude makes me the miserable one more often than not. The last four Super Bowls, the team I wanted to win it...hasn't. I'm pulling for the Jets and Saints today and this has all the feelings of a day where the Colts and Vikings will end up the victors.
I said in a previous thread that I no longer care about the trash talk that the players and coaches make about our Patriots, because it's not worth the energy. There is always going to be some slight, some disrespect. As a fan who has invested himself too much emotionally in this stuff, I just want it to be about being entertained watching the game.
So for today's game between the Jets and Colts, I wish both could lose, but I know someone has to win. So I hope for an entertaining game. There is still room for schadenfreude, due to the Colts allowing the Jets to make it this far in the first place. If the Colts win, I hope they earn it and are not handed the win by bogus calls/non-calls. I would rather see the Colts make it from an entertainment standpoint, but I would also rather see the Jets make it from an underdog standpoint. So this will be bittersweet one way or another.
What I'm trying to say is, don't fight it. One of these teams is going to the Super Bowl. So as a football fan, hope for an entertaining game. As a Patriots fan, feel free to root for the NFC representative when the Super Bowl comes around. That's what I'll be doing. And hopefully, unlike the last four Super Bowls, I'll be on the winning side for a change.
