Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Wow, Adam Schefter wrote this on his twitter account a few minutes ago:

"Stat of the month or maybe year: This season, the Saints defense has six touchdowns while the Browns offense has five."

Wow, just wow...
Here's one for you :

Their RB have zero rushing TD
Their WR have zero receiving TD

Their 5 TD are : 2 runs by QB, 1 catch by FB and 2 catches by TE.

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building

Isn't that exactly what the Pats did with BB?

Pioli was never a GM here. The ultimate power/authority always rested with Bill and Pioli was part of his personally trained/mentored staff that he brought with him from NY as his player personnel chief. That they worked well without one chafing the other was somewhat unique, and obviously Lerner thought you could recreate it by simply giving his previously fired rookie HC his choice of buddy GM's - which is kinda what happened in NY. Tannenbaum got the promotion there for recommending/landing Mangini. But that is not in any way the same as BB bringing his own personally groomed personnel man with him to NE.

Saw a report on PFT last night that said Kokinis had apparently sought counsel and advice from his former employers over the last few weeks because he could see the handwriting on the wall and was thoroughly regretting his decision to take the Cleveland job. That means he sensed he was going to be made into the fall guy for Eric and Lerner's miscalculations...

Lerner now wants a front man to handle the media and smooth out Mangini's rough edges and be transparent about where the Browns are going and what they are doing. As if communications is the only real issue... I don't think the culture of silence came from Kokinis since it was an issue in NY too while it was never an issue in Baltimore where Ozzie and Billick worked a room and let players emote. Lerner is just trying to salvage continuity on the football field (mid season coaching replacements never accomplish anything and there isn't anyone on Eric's staff qualified to, probably by design) and holding out hope that with a stronger voice at GM he can manage Eric the Coach through larger segment of his contract or goad him into walking away by seasons end so he doesn't have to pay the balance of the deal. Fat chance of that happening given how stubborn and willful Eric is.

Watch for the rest of the so-called friends of Eric to get the axe as the balance of this season unfolds. Daboll is likely doomed since the offense is floundering and two starting QB candidates have been rendered almost unsalvagable. Ryan as the DC is also at risk. I wouldn't be shocked to see RAC brought back as DC/Asst. HC with Acorsi onboard as defacto interim GM to help win over the players. If Lerner has any intentions of inserting Kosar into that mix it will be a truly epic disaster...

Watching Eric's career unfold/disintegrate is like watching a slow motion multi vehicle car wreck.

Eric will eventually be out because his deal isn't long enough to allow for a mess of this magnitude to get remotely turned around in a division suddenly that competitive.

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Schefter and Mort say the Browns were investigating him for "professional misconduct:"

Cleveland Browns GM George Kokinis out; head coach Eric Mangini stays - ESPN

The owner didn't want to pay Romeo his remaining years, and now he doesn't want to pay Kokkinis.

Go work for the Browns, and not only will you be fired unceremoniously, but they will welch on your contract and try to destroy your professional reputation.

No. Comparing the 2000 BB in the 2007 Mangini in 2007 is silly, and anyway, who is the GM with final say in his contract that you think BB hand picked?

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Thats not as fun. I say it was a love triangle w/ O'Brien and Mangini got PO'ed..:p

this was my first thought.. then I thought ahh nevermind...

but I wonder if they can connect the dots from O'Brien to Kokinis... they said they were reviewing phone records... professional and personal conduct..

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Cleveland is still paying RAC for his services, so I really doubt that the would take another job with Cleveland, when he can just stay at home and get paid.

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Eh, Mangini may have saved his job there for the time being but he's done after this year methinks. There's just too many more well qualified head coaches out there that could take the Browns in a much better direction than Mangini has taken them so far (which would be backwards). Either Cowher or Shanahan may be on the horizon for them.

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building

makes sense to Browns fans because Cowher worked for Marty Schottenheimer when he was the Browns HC.

Cowher also played linebacker for the Browns.

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Acorsi is denying he has had any contact with Lerner or involvement in this mess... Also made it clear he didn't recommend Kokinis but rather an assistant GM from the Giants. Says Lerner chose to go with Kokinis based on Mangini's recommendation...LOL

It sounds like Mangini at least learned one lesson from his time with Tangini...he who has the idiot owners ear prevails in the short term. Sounds like he's been wispering to Lerner that if he sticks with him/the system he will somehow end up like Kraft...LOL Note to Randy Lerner, the system is all about personal accountability. Eric has had none since the day he walked out of Foxboro with his tattle tales and his assistant and his laptop and whatever else of Bill's work product he could pilfer on his way out the door.

Cowher also played linebacker for the Browns.

Cowher has long been rumored to be patiently awating John Fox's demise in Carolina. That day is likely at hand. Lerner is a real putz of an owner easily swayed by outside influences and perceptions and I doubt Cowher would want to be facing his beloved Steelers (not to mention the Ravens and a resurgent Bengals) 6 times a year with no infrastructure whatsoever and a gutted roster backed up by that level of ownership.

I could on the other hand see someone like Parcell's penciling them in as his next target. If Lerner has enough cash to cover his expenses...while paying off 2 former HC's and GM's. Lerner needs infrastructure. That's Bill's specialty.

I believe it was last year or two years ago that Cowher built a house in NC. His daughters (one for sure) goes to school @ NC State. It's a matter of time before hes leading the Panthers...

Not sure about the Tuna deal. By all accounts, hes enjoying the Miami experience. The owner seems to be letting him do whatever. However, I did read from an non-credible source that Tuna was annoyed with all the celebrities now being part-owners...Who knows..

He doesn't like the new owner and he had a clause put in his contract that said if Wayne sold he could walk away with full pay any time he chose to. He likes to rebuild infranstructure and turn things around. He doesn't tend to want to hang around long enough that people start asking so where's the Lombardi...like in NY or Dallas. In this division his work is done...In Cleveland he would be treated like a God and given at least another couple of years to make them at least competitive. Plus he'd be double dipping.

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

Mangini is either delusional or Lerner is an even bigger sucker than most people presume...

"I can tell you that, for a variety of reasons," Mangini said in remarks shown during ESPN's SportsCenter, "things didn't work out. And you never go into a situation like this with the intention of it not working out. But we felt that organizationally this was the best decision in order to move forward."

But what didn't work out? Was it Kokinis who decided to keep quarterback Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn? Was it Kokinis who picked Quinn as the Week One starter? Was it Kokinis who decided to bench him after only ten quarters?

Was it Kokinis who decided to trade Braylon Edwards? Was it Kokinis who decided to round up a bunch of Jets players who were good enough to get Mangini fired in New York?

And how can Mangini stand at a podium and say he has "respect" for his "friend" amid unrebutted reports that Kokinis was fired "with cause"?

As we pointed out last night, the Browns had to give Kokinis final say over the roster and the draft in order to hire him away from the Ravens. Kokinis apparently believed that the contract meant what it said. Mangini apparently believed that he was still calling the shots.

And it apparently went downhill from "hello."

Given that Mangini and Kokinis were close friends before attempting earlier this year to coexist professionally, it's hard to imagine anyone other than an even closer friend of Mangini's faring any better.

A better question might be who the hell is this WE Eric keeps referring to and what makes anyone think he has any remaining better friends who might be willing to work with a backstabbing career killer...

Re: OT: PFT: Browns GM Kokinis seen escorted out of building [Update: Accorsi -> Kosa

With everything that has gone on with Mangini, I find it very hard to believe that he and Belichick could co-exist in NE for such a long period of time

I cannot wait until Kokinis opens up his mouth about this for the first time to the national media. I can all but guaruntee that Mangini threw him under the bus in order to save his job. What a piece of garbage he is.
