Every NFL head coach has an expiration date...........
Not true. Joe Paterno will be rolled out there even after he's in an urn holding ashes.

Joe Paterno isn't an NFL head coach.
Rex Ryan apologizes for his comments about Chargers | ProFootballTalk
Hilarious - Ryan knew immediately it was a major blunder and called Norv to apologize and try to minimize the damage before the story even hit
Norv's smart enough in the gamesmanship to blow off the apology and use it to fire back - maybe even motivate his team as Ryan's effectively slamming them too saying they can't win on their own
Jets fans have to have some inkling that the Rex Ryan era ends with no Super Bowl and Ryan being fired, don't they?
I just realized that I had no idea what "Norv" was actually short for. I figured it was Norvert or something. Turns out it's Norval. WTF kind of name is that?
Nothing like two mediocre coaches who were better off staying as coordinators barbing each other in the media. They both inherited teams with incredible amounts of talent on both sides of the ball (minus a couple positions) and neither have won or even made it to the big game. As much as I hate saying this, Mangini had something going in NY and Cleveland. It's too bad for him he didn't get enough time to finish it. Cleveland is taking steps back under Shurmur and Ryan has done a piss poor job of bringing in divas and not creating leaders.
They always say the first 1-2 years a coach is still working with the previous regime's team. After that time is up you really start to see what they're made of. Norv Turner, Rex Ryan, and Jim Caldwell's true abilities are starting to show.
You can count on one hand the amount of coaches that have done what Rex has done in his first 2 years as head coach...wrong.I ran out of hands going back four decades.Your problem is "seems like" is NOT reality. Mangini had nothing going in NY. People have short term memories with this stuff. He compiled a losing record (23-25) while hereuh. yeah..we know that..we never thought he was anything but what he is, a back stabbing RAT. Rex took a defense (with the same players minus a couple spots) and turned it from the 16th rank D (under Mangini) to the 1st rank D (by a WIDE margin over Pitt in 2nd, no less)..no argument..he IS a great defensive asst. coach, plus had to deal with a rookie QB in Sanchez who put up ATROCIOUS numbers in his first year...that's a head coach's problem...to coach up offense as well as defense...by your own statement you are damning him.. Leaders? Who gives a crap about that...who gives a crap?????Try any of the other 31 teams who find leadership is of prime importance. I want wins, and so far Rex has brought just that..yeah...he had 9 and had to be told at a press conferenece in which he was capitulating that his team had just backed into the playoffs. You actually think THIS is a PROUD MOMENT in Jet history???.
To say Rex is a mediocre coach is nothing short of asinineuh..the goal is the Super Bowl. When a head coach puts all his bullets into one preliminary game to get a win and his team comes out FLAT for the entire half in the next game and CANNOT score from the 1 yard line with FOUR "ground and pound!!!" opportunities, and stands on the sideline answer-less when his QB comes running with his hands in the air like a little boy begging daddy for help, well yeah...he's a mediocre head coach.... If you can't stand for his big mouth (if you're not a Jet fan, I don't blame you), but to lump the words Rex and medicore in the same sentence in terms of coaching ability is just foolish..no one is lumping "medicore" in with anything...what is it with you OG JTSE!!! fans anyway??? and shows you're arguing from emotion rather than reason...don't look now Bunky...but you are what you say you detest.
Pwned.....

rex pretty much threw his entire team under the bus, i love it
calm down...have a few wines...try the veal...we're here all week...

The facts: you are what your record says you are. The Jets are the definition of mediocre at this point in the 2011 season. 3rd place in the AFC East and not in the conversation about a playoff spot after six weeks does not a winner make. In week 7, Rex Ryan finds himself in a must-win situation. A loss to San Diego means the Jets have to pretty much run the table and are already in a deep hole in tie-breaking situations should they get to 10-6 or 11-5.
The Patriots have the best record in the AFC. Period.
Mangini, a career 33-47 head coach, is the definition of a loser. He's also an ungrateful rat snitch weasel, the only person I can think of who embodies the characteristics of not one, but two rodents.
Rex should shut his mouth
I can't argue with any of this. All factually true. Unfortunately, this isn't what my post was referring too, so you missed the point entirely.
But thank you with agreeing with me with Mangini.

I will .Yeah - but here's the true point.
Rex is not a good head coach.
his head coaching record speaks otherwise
Why? Because he can't shut his mouth and isn't as smart as he thinks he is.
so to be a better head coach Rex should shut his mouth instead of focusing on the x's and o's, you know the ways to win football games?
Sure he knows X's and O's. So does his brother. In fact, there's a healthy amount of respect for both in an on field capacity.
I concur
As a head coach, Rex doesn't know how to be a motivator or leader.
Right, in sports illustrated poll last year, an overwhelming majority didn't say they wanted to play for Rex. If you don't think Rex is a great motivator there isn't much more to be said. Thats probably his best characteristic. Sure he sounds like an idiot sometimes, but just about every player would run through a brick wall for him.
He blusters up his players and instills a certain amount of confidence coming in - promising, guaranteeing, that he will win a Super Bowl THAT YEAR.
Can't argue this. He does do this.
It works. Players feel confident. They overachieve. They win. Then they fall short.
31 of 32 teams fall short in an NFL season. This isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Rex - a one trick pony who wasn't smart enough to see the long term impact if his "guarantee" fell short, makes the same promise again.
You're probably right in this respect. Rex seems to focus on the 'now' approach rather than long term.'
Many of the dumber players still buy into it.
So to like Rex Ryan and his antics you have to be dumb? Got it. So the 24% of players polled in the NFL that said they wanted to play for Rex Ryan are all dumb?
Some do not. Joe Namath sure doesn't. Jason Taylor gets the hell outta dodge to rejoin bottom dweller Dolphins as the more desireable option. Other players seem to be feeling the Koolaid wear off.
So a 70 year old Joe Namath isn't dumb because he called out Rex Ryan. The same Joe Namath that asked Suzy Kolber to kiss him on MNF? And btw, Jason Taylor wanted to return to the Jets, we didn't offer him a contract.
The team goes into a tailspin losing game after game despite their false bravado - only to have their QB show his form of leadership proclaiming the team to be "back" after the Jets offense demonstrated an ability to overcome the Dolphins 2 field goals.
Would you prefer Sanchez to say the team is done?
Are these all signs of a good head coach?
What point have you made exactly? I still don't see one.
I hate to say it, as one who's actually enjoyed watching this evolving train wreck, but I think Rex's days are numbered - and when you look back on the day he's fired, you'll want to look back to this stretch of games, Rex's behavior, and ask yourself...
Until this team misses the playoffs on a consistent basis, or Rex does something so outlandish, he isn't going anywhere. PSLs for this team are through the roof, the Jets have never gotten more attention from their fans then they do now.
"Is that really how a "good coach" acts?"
Belichick is a home wrecker that ruined 2 separate marriages. What is the difference?
Sorry to burst your bubble - but that's my hunch. It's downhill from here for this team.
If they lose to San Diego, then I agree this season can spiral out of control fast with a tough upcoming schedule.
Oh I think you'll have your share of wins - some good ones - and some good lucky stretches too.
When you win on a consistent basis late in games it isn't luck anymore, its skill. Patriots have been doing it for years.
Sometimes that can even happen at the right time (as I think it has in the past to vault the Jets to the playoffs - along with a healthy dose of luck.)
Agreed, Jets don't make the playoffs if the Colts don't lay down.
But the reality is, the Jets made the playoffs one year because the Colts tanked a game and the Jets should have been 8-8.
Also true, and they took full advantage of the hand they were dealt.
And as of now, deduct one win given the gift the Cowboys gave the Jets for a realistic assessment of how good a team this is (deduct a win for the Dolphins too as they're barely an NFL team)
Should we deduct a win from the Pats team cause you beat them too? So when Romo throws a pick to Revis its a gift, but when the Cowboys play conservative and run the ball 3 straight times handing the ball back to Brady its not a gift? Gotcha
So that's what you've got as a team - in large part because of the serious flaws of your head coach.
The flaws from this team go way beyond the head coach. Rex can't jump start the run game, he isn't Schotty calling the plays, he can't make the WR run better routes.
Have a nice day.
I will .
Another post that can't back up his word with stats. Name me more than 5 coaches who did more than what Rex accomplished in his first 2 seasons? You can't, but I'll let you try.
You know that Mangini was a bad coach? Good, you're agreeing with me. Unfortunately, the other poster thought otherwise.
You agreed with me on him being a great defensive coach. Thanks.
This is a straw man. I didn't say it was Rex's problem to coach up offense. I was countering the fact that the previous poster said our team was loaded with talent, despite our quarterback (you know, the most important position on the field) being in the bottom 3 in the league in virtually every statistic. Thats a credit to Rex, just like Belichick got credit for guiding a NE team to 11 wins with Matt freakin Cassel.
When did we back into the playoffs? You have a misinformed definition of backing in. Backing in is when you LOSE to get into the playoffs. We won our games. Did we get help? Absolutely, but I'm not gonna apologize for that. When did I say getting into the playoffs was a proud moment in Jets hitory? I'm looking at the whole picture of WINS, and Rex has brought that. 24-13 as a head coach in his first 2 seasons. Is it as good as what Belichick turns out this past years? No. But for a Jets team that has sucked most of his history, this is a big accomplishment.
Now you're cherry picking plays to show Rex is a bad head coach. We couldn't score from the goal line? Right, cause thats Rex's fault and not Schottys. What if I cherry picked Belichicks asinine call to go for it on 4th and 2 a few years back? Would that make him a bad head coach?
No one is lumping mediocre in with anything? Did you not read the posters words before you posted?
Also, pretty funny that the following 2 posters think you 'pwned' me. With what? Emotion?
Ray Ray's back lol.OK,you "in peace" liar...recently I can think of three off the top of my head...Tomlin,Caldwell and Sean Payton...that's just since 2006...you just start watching the NFL????? Going back 40 years I can find enough coaches that fit this parameter to fit multiple hands. Stop being a lying weasel and trying to push your cruddy Rat agenda...here's something to think about ,doofus...how many head coaches have looked HORRIBLE in consecutive AFC championship games???? That's right, ONE...guess who...
