Note:
So far, we have 12 reported visits from 30 allowable. Last draft, we had 13 reported visits (according to my records), from 20 allowable. This draft, our local scribes are feeding us more info (namely Reiss and Breer), enabling us to get a better feel as to which prospects are receiving the most interest from the Pats. This list is slightly significant in that we did draft 3 from last years reported visits (Maroney, Jackson, Mincey).

Re: Geoff Pope, CB from Howard, to workout for Pats on Tuesday

Allison is one of my draft favorites, not great intangibles, but strong playmaking ability. Probably round 3-4.

Haha, yea I've been saying I knew they were interested in him since the combine.

So would you like credit now, or after we draft him? ;)

Re: Geoff Pope, CB from Howard, to workout for Pats on Tuesday

Haha, no I don't want any credit, it was just something I knew about.

I wouldn't mind if they drafted him, because he's a good receiver. I would rather wait on Chris Davis in the later rounds, though.

I [Houston]wasn't planning on doing anything because I had personal workouts set up with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans on the 27th and 28th.

Revisiting a player they have already seen before, New England will be working out Arizona’s Chris Henry...Patriots running backs coach Ivan Fears would work out Henry...It is the second time the Patriots have taken a closer look at Henry in the past month...obviously wants to be sure of how much potential Henry has.

Scouting Report: Chris Henry Ht: 5'-11.5" Wt: 230 lbs. 40: 4.41

Led the team in rushing as a junior when he was Arizona’s feature back. Posted 165/581/7 carrying the ball, adding 21/197/1 as a receiver.

Pos: Nice-sized ball carrier who gives effort on the field. Displays quickness, above-average footwork and has a burst through the hole. Possesses the playing speed to cut the corner, keeps his feet moving on contact and works to pick up yardage. Runs with good lean, immediately gets to top speed and is a solid receiver out of the backfield. Effectively picks up blocking assignments, meeting defenders head-on.

Neg: Does not play like a big back, rarely breaks tackles or pick up yardage off initial contact. A bit straight-line-ish in his running. Only productive for one season.

...linebacker Jon Beason...went through a workout for seven teams, including the Miami Dolphins...ran the 40-yard dash in the low 4.6-second range, with scouts placing his best time around 4.62 and 4.63 seconds. He also hit 10 feet in the standing long jump, and his vertical jump was measured at 32.5 inches...Beason, 6-0 and 233 pounds, leaves today for personal visits with several NFL teams and will not return home until April 20.

It's odd that nobody has confirmed Geoff Pope's workout.

Herald says Daymeion Hughes is coming to Gillette tomorrow

honestly..i compare Hughes to Samuel

both dont have great speed(Samuel when he was drafted was a 4.6 type of guy right?) and dont seem to have great athletism but both have made plays(Samuel 10 picks, Hughes had a ton)

both play run also. Hughes will have a chip on his shoulder since he wont go where his talent should land him

he ran a 4.62 i think at Combine then a 4.56 at Pro Day and supposivly nursing a "bad back"

Honestly, Samuel claims he was even slower when he entered college, and improved to that type of speed, and he's improved a little more since coming to NE.

I wonder if Hughes could fall to the third? If so, NE moving up for him, Josh Wilson, or Jonathan Wade would not surprise me at all.

Samuel was really slow in HS when he was a QB but got faster and faster..now id say hes fast..hes kept up with guys like Lee Evans and such and i think hughes is faster on field than given credit because his instincts and his footwork is pretty good which is more important than pure speed . look at DeAngelo Hall..has some trouble with footwork and concentration and gets beat even though hes a 4.2 type guy

Hughes is faster over 10 yds then Asante, after that Asante has faster long speed, more explosion, and better change of direction.

Add a PV to Sepulveda's list.

Breer
The Patriots have invited Baylor P Daniel Sepulveda to Foxboro for one of their 30 allotted pre-draft visits. The team has already met with Sepulveda, and this is another step forward in interest in the only punter ever to win the Ray Guy Award (nation’s top punter) twice.

don't get me wrong. samuel is a solid cb-and im sure hughes could end up being the same. but i think the past 2 yrs have exploited a major weakness for the patriots-speed/athleticism. im tired of watching the elite receivers in the afc embarrass us over and over. if we continue to choose corners w/ cover 2 skill sets (i.e samuel or possibly hughes), we need to start getting some athletes at the safety spots. and in a draft stacked at the safety position, i dont see why wed spend our top picks on players from considerably weaker positions in the draft. there are some situations where I would consider going away from that (staley/carricker/hall/houston) if they ended up falling to our late picks, but it would be foolish to trade up and lose a high-value player at the end of the first round. the idea that we would trade up to get REGGIE NELSON is ridiculous. the urban meyer connection only goes so far, and it dosent get past the fact that nelson is an idiot w/ mediocre football IQ. let him go to some other team where he can be the home run hitter who ends up striking out on most of his coverage assignments. meriweather is a perfect fit as the pats fs, w/ a dark horse of marcus mcCauley making a switch from cb to safety. everytime I hear "trade up for nelson" it gives me the same feeling i have when i watch jets fans on draft day-complete disgust

  • Honestly with all the drama over Miller vs. Sauerbrun... I could see the Pats trading their 3rd rounder this year for a 4th and a future 4th.

Then the Pats draft Sepulveda and DeOssie on 2nd day. Don't be surprised if it happens, you heard it here first!
