Players who visited the Pats

Per Reiss: http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extras/askreiss/04_17_07/?page=5

Here are a few of the prospect visits to Gillette Stadium that I have confirmed: receivers Aundrae Allison, Chris Davis;
linebackers Jon Beason, Patrick Willis, and David Harris;
running back Michael Bush;
cornerbacks Leon Hall, Daymeion Hughes, and Josh Wilson.

There have been reports of other visits, and a list was put together by the Boston Herald, although I have not confirmed those players' visits. Those names include:
running back Chris Henry;
receivers Robert Meachem, Sidney Rice, and Steve Smith;
tight end Joe Newton;
punter Daniel Sepulveda,
outside linebacker Anthony Spencer;
and quarterback/receiver Isaiah Stanback

---
I honestly don't see how we draft a WR. Considering our WR draft history... (only Branch was a hit of many misses)
Love all the LBs. Despite being considered undersized by many Beason was here. Love his motor and nastiness.

Of the three CBs I see all three as potential shutdown corners.
Hughes would be a higher pick were it not for a 4.62ish 40. (Asante ran a 4.6ish)

Like the RB bush a lot. But can he run with power at the NFL level? And I think he is fully recovered given the tape his agent sent out.

RB Henry...
I liken him to Watson. Super athletic, tons of potential, but where is the production?

Love Meachem, Rice seems frail, Love Smith... the "other" USC wr

Newton is a huge 6"7 260lbish TE who loves to block

The punter is said to have a booming leg

Many here love Spencer, I liken him to a poor man's Merriman

Stanback is intriguing. a WR/QB slash combo. I think BB wants his version of Randle El.

Re: Players who visited the Pats

The visits that were scheduled:
1. QB Isaiah Stanback
2. RB Michael Bush
3. Chris Henry
4. WR Ted Ginn Jr.
5. WR Aundrae Allison
5. Chris Davis (They've had more contact with him than any other player, and I really hope they pick him. I like him a lot.)
6. WR Robert Meachem
7. WR Sidney Rice
8. WR Steve Smith
9. TE Joe Newton
10. OG Robert Turner
11. CB Leon Hall
12. CB Daymeion Hughes
13. CB Marcus McCauley
14. CB Josh Wilson
15. ILB Jon Beason
16. ILB David Harris
17. ILB Patrick Willis
18. OLB Stewart Bradley
19. DE/OLB Anthony Spencer
20. P Daniel Sepulveda

Also, the Chris Henry visit has been confirmed:

Breer
The Patriots hosted Arizona running back Chris Henry yesterday at Gillette Stadium, a visit we reported was imminent last week, and walked away impressed. He was there with fellow back Michael Bush, of Louisville, and said on his pre-draft blog that the experience stood out.

From Chris Henry's Blog:
I can barely keep my head on straight I have been so many places. I visited Chicago today and am now jumping on a plane to head home. This whole experience has been great. I have been excited at every place. I was in New England Wednesday and New Orleans and Baltimore before that. Even though the visits are all very similar, each place is unique. We spend time with the coaches watching film and answering questions. There is definitely a buzz in New England. The people and fans are just really proud and passionate about their team. I'm sure every city has passionate fans, but with all the Super Bowls in the last five or six years, there is just an added sense of pride in New England. That visit was a little more personal. It was the third time we have met with each other. We have visited at the Combine, in Arizona and now in New England. They gave me a tour of the facility. That stadium was amazing. From the outside it looked nice, but when you get on the inside it's unbelievable. Everybody has watched the Patriots play. I'm sure playing in that stadium is an amazing. It's so big and with those fans going crazy, the players must love it. I know I would.

Some other visits were confirmed to have already taken place, as well.

Thanks for posting that.
Pats bringing in household names is weird to me...

Seneschal2, does only a trip to Foxboro constitute a private visit or can a private visit also occur in Florida or wherever? I know we can only have a certain amount of guys come up to Foxboro so I'm just looking for clarity.

The PV is strictly private visit at Foxboro, whereas on-campus workouts are listed as PW (private workout). I know of no private visits occuring (on location) that don't include some sort of workout. The Pats are allowed 30 official visits (up from 20 last draft). Referring to the list, there have been 19 reported visits.

Right now there has been 20 scheduled visits reportes, as the list I posted above suggest.

You left off the private visit for Chris Davis, which has been confirmed to have already taken place, by Reiss. I posted this info earlier.

Does anyone consider it significant that Michael Griffin, Paul Posluzny and Zak DeOssie, are not on this list? What about the combined Pw/Pv for LBs Beason, Harris, and Bradley?

Also my projected choice for a CB to S conversion Kenny Scott of GT is also not on the list.

I do consider it significant that Danny Sepulveda IS on the list. :cool:

We don't get an accurate enough picture of all the visits, workouts, and interviews to detect significant visits or omissions.

scout.com says Ivan Fears worked out Le'Ron McClain. i really like him and hed be a hell of a pickup .. a Neal type of blocker i dont we dont use but opening holes..we can use that

He impressed me with his play in the Senior Bowl, though his NFLDraftScout profile reports he has trouble with complex playbooks. I was hoping he was an ILB conversion project...

From KFFL:

Patriots | Team works out M. Jones Tue, 24 Apr 2007 18:06:20 -0700 KFFL has learned the New England Patriots held a private workout with University of Iowa OL Mike Jones on the university's campus.

So add a PW for Iowa OG Mike Jones

Yes, I do -- and we can add Revis to the list also.

BTW, just found this blurb on Griffin:

The Pats brought Griffin to Foxboro...

I wish there was more info about that Griffin visit, but it's still the first report of his name being linked to the Pats in any way. So I do consider this somewhat significant.

I can't find anyone else who said he came in for a visit, and she made it sound like the visit already took place. maybe Tomase and Reiss knew about it but NE asked them not to say anything?

We know they are allowed 30 visits but I don't quite have 30 visits on my list, so they're probably a few players nobody is reporting.

Question, why do people list Michael Griffin as a SS and Meriweather as a FS? They both played SS in college and they are around the same size (Meriweather: 5'10.5" 195lbs) (Griffin: 5'11.6 202lbs). I list them both as FS because it seems to be a better fit for their skills, and their size, but if I was to list them according to college position it would be SS.

Well, New England has claimed that they asked for several players not to be released as visits to Foxboro.

I think of those several players, there is someone they're targeting in their.

Easy question.

Most experts and scouts project Griffin as the classic SS type NFL safety.

While Merriweather is more of a tweener CB/S and FS suits his abilities better in NFL situations.

Watch the Senior bowl and tell me who looked better tackling, against the run, and making hits....it was Meriweather. He also has good coverage skills which is why Miami used him at CB when they played against top level WR's. He was their best player in the secondary so they tried to use him as best they could. Both Meriweather and Griffin like to hit, and they've both had a lot of tackles (Griffin has more), but I think Meriweather is better at wrapping up. I'm just saying that if people are going to say Meriweather's skills fit FS they should be saying the same about Griffin.

According to nfldraftscout Griffin's size and playing style might fit better at FS.
