File under WTF.. did not even know this was under consideration, either that or it is a slow news day.. why would anyone ever consider doing anything to Brady for the actions of a security firm he hired.. is there any corroraborating evidence. Some folks need a life..

If it was investigated in Costa Rica and no charges were filed, how can they seek a civil suit here in the U.S.? That's what I want to know?

It still has not been proven there were any shots fired? The "paparazzi" said there were shots fired but the officials in Costa Rica couldn't find enough evidence to warrant a charge being brought against the body guards or Brday? Sounds fishy to me. Sounds like the scum bag paparazzi are seeking a payday.

I think it's great that the NFL won't try to discipline Brady for something that's none of the NFL's damned business. Now, if the NFL will keep applying that, and expand it to the fullest extent, we'll be getting somewhere.

The fact that a criminal case wasn't brought has nothing to do with a civil suit. Remember OJ Simpson was acquitted of criminal charges but still found civily responsible.

Also, US law apparantly allows someone to sue a US citizen in a US court for an incident that took place elsewhere. I doubt Brady will be found responsible and I think this suit is without merit, but it's not terribly exotic as far as these things go.

Surprised to hear that there may be jurisdiction.... IMO this law is way too broad.

Just another editor trying to bring Brady down some and getting himself some traffic by putting Brady and gunfire and discipline in the same story. The media is really pathetic in way too many cases these days. Objectivity is all but dead.

I believe it is a 1789 law or something like that is being used as a precedent. Seems week to me. What I think is that we have paparazzi involved and media exposure involved, and that pretty much tells the story.

The season is 16 games. 4 games (or one fourth of the season) would have been a fair punishment for a bunch of randoms shooting in the general area of Brady... That way, the Commish would be able to establish order and discipline - and put that bad, bad citizen Brady on the path to redemption.

    Thank you (I think).

Now that you mention it, Ian did say he'd have a rep system set up for camp, or for the season, or something like that. Perhaps he changed his mind. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you asked him about it.

I agree. The NFl should not worry about private suits against their players or about the use off guns by players or their employees. That is a matter for law enfocement. The NFl should not have additional sanctions.

How can they discipline him when the Nfl does not know that he did anything? Brady says there were no guns. I believe him over these photo. who just want money.

Also, I'd be interested in seeing the grounds for the suit. Based upon who paid for the wedding, Brady might not be a defendant anyway. In most cultures, the father of the bride pays for the wedding in toto. If he's not around, then it might also be a joint affair with Tom & Gisselle being dually responsible. IOW, it all depends upon who paid for the guys with the guns.

And yeah, I don't see this as anyone else's business, especially with the affair taking place in another frikkin' country.

Re: NFL will not discipline Brady for Gunfire at wedding???/

The Alien Tort Claims Act? I was wondering what law was being invoked to give jurisdiction to a US federal court. The ATCA, though, can only be used for suing someone who's accused of violating "the laws of nations" (taken to mean international law) or international treaties, not your run-of-the-mill torts. I wonder if there's going to be a hearing on jurisdiction or if it's already been established, or maybe there's another law that's more applicable. I tried to find a copy of the actual suit but it seems like the US district courts make you pay for online access to cases.

    That's the act..."

Supreme Court opened the door for a case like this to be tried in the US courts.

Anyone who wants to file a civil suit against anyone can do so virtually anywhere.

Which is a good decision. You can't just allow defendants who are citizens of another country to evade jurisdiction in cases that involve universally recognized questions of law.
