OT: WEEI and the Globe end their feud

Appartly WEEI is taking WBZ-FM seriously. It isn't a coincidence with WBZ-FM beginning next week. Apparently, Globe writers can only be in studio on Dale and Holey and can call into the Big Show and D&C.

I don't really see what difference this makes.

D&C talking over someone else doesn't really change the show, nor does Pete and the rest of the big show threatening a new guest make a difference.

    Update:
I guess hanging up the phone would be easier than walking out of the studio if need be.

Re: Media truce: Globe sportswriters allowed back on WEEI

Sorry I didn't see this thread. My take is that Globe writers will be in studio guests for WBZ FM and just call in for WEEI. It will diminish the edge that WBZ has, but not totally destroy it. The morning and afternoon drive are the biggest radio hours and the Globe will want to showcase their talent during those hours so WBZ will still have and edge there unless they cannot get ratings.

Re: Media truce: Globe sportswriters allowed back on WEEI

Well, it appears to be a pre-emptive strike against the soon-to-be new competition. If the Globe sportswriters were only appearing on WBZ-FM then it's a possible reason for some listeners to check out the new station. It could also result in the Globe writers talking about WBZ rather than WEEI and creating some interest in the minds of their readers.

While you are right it doesn't change either of the shows to the listeners, it's an interesting business decision. WEEI never paid this kind of attention to other sports talk radio stations such as 890 in the past.

Re: Media truce: Globe sportswriters allowed back on WEEI

Has anyone turned on the radio this week on the way to work and been shocked to hear SPORTS TALK on WEEI?! Neumi is back as a guest host and he refuses to do the "Headlines" segment of the D&C show, and deftly turns the conversaiton back to SPORTS TALK when Meter or someone else tries to go off track. I was actually wondering if they had Neumi on to prevent him from going to the new WBZ FM station. I really hope he gets a spot somewhere. I was seriously bummed when WEEI wouldn't show him the money and he walked. He is my favorite radio host.

Am I gonna be able to listen to the new station from my car in Nova Scotia like I do for WEEI ? How comparable will the signals be ?

Also... hoping to hear Reiss on EEI soon...

It's an FM signal so no, you won't be able to pick up the new station in Nova Scotia.

I can't stand WEEI's morning show. It's garbage. Actually, I haven't been able to stand EEI for awhile now.

Grrrr. Then I will need to settle for EEI. Luckily, unlike many on this board, I am a fan. But I would like an alternative from time to time. In the mornings, when they get too political, I like tuning out (hard to get too excited about local Boston politics when you live in another country).

This is a statement you may want to re-think. If newspapers continue to die and internet advertising stays in its current state and doesn't recover - you won't get to see a lot of the guys you enjoy reading. The situation in general isn't good right now. Take it from someone following this very closely.

Not only that, but the loss of papers would make it easier for the government to control the flow of information. The impact of that upon sports might be minimal, but you never know.

A few years ago I'd agree but once great newspapers for the last several years do not print news without editorializing blatently in their news articles making the entire enterprise suspect. That said I'm not prescient enough to imagine what 'news' mechanisim if any will emerge.

I would think as a fan of the Pats that you would care about the Globe surviving, even if it is eventually only as a dotcom website and the print version at some point goes away. Say what you will about the Globe but the alternatives for information on the Pats should the Globe go away - the Herald, sports talk radio, espn, etc. - are not particularly appealing.

It matters not; I will never go back to WEEI after AUG 13. They are just one big commercial interspersed with occasional baseball jock-sniffing. They should just call themselves The Baseball Station or better yet The Endless Commercials Station.

Anyone notice how the number of commercials is way down on WEEI? It is still 100% baseball jock-sniffing but the commercials are down. Getting ready for Aug 13 I assume. I will not be tricked. WEEI gets de-programmed on Aug 13 for their past sins.

I'll be listening in the AM whenever possible. Can't stand D&C ... especially how their fake arguments when they both take a side just to create interest for more calls the rest of the day. As for "Meter" ... well he just flat out sucks and hopefully WBZ kicks butt and WEEI does a morning overhaul and cans Meter the idiot schill.

As for the Big Show ... well I listen when Ordway is on vacation that's about it.

Yeah funny how the commericals have dropped in the past few days, or it at least seems that way. Not a fan of redsox talk for 8 hours straight (mostly because lots of callers are moronic), but I still listen daily. I do enjoy the station a lot more when the pats and bruins are playing.
