Just Curious: Does the losing coach usually stay on the field?

Its next to impossible for the coaches to meet at the Superbowl as soon as the clock runs out. There's a hoard of media, confetti, water buckets, etc and rarely do they every meet. This is another pathetic attempt by the media to make BB look like a villain.

We have BINGO!! The clock showed zero(someone posted a pic to confirm) I do recall that myself while watching, and its clear to me that BB wanted to congratulate TC as he's aware of how quickly the opposition gets roped off the field. In our 3 SB's, I honestly don't remember seeing the losing coach congratulating BB, and reflecting on it now, I'd assume that it's very difficult to do.
It continues to astound me how much the media just hates BB . Especially the BOSTON media!(re callahan's piece yesterday and buckley's today) And yes, my failure to cap their names is my own pitiful attempt to show my disdain.

I believe that TC and BB have a very good relationship due to having worked together in the past. I believe that BB was intent on showing his respect to TC for his brilliant game plan and if anything, was showing his respect, REGARDLESS of what the NFL protocol was, because for all we know, Mike Carey was telling BB not to cross the field, as that's not the procedure following the end of SB's. So yea, knock him for a FU to "procedures", but some of these posters who say he was abandoning his team or "sulking", are just ridiculous.

I'm just wondering, with all the media hate going on...
Typically, does the losing coach/ losing players stay on the field and watch the celebration? Do they congratulate the winners? Or do they typically go back in the locker room and let the winners celebrate?

The media is acting like what BB did was evil. Forget the 1 second as that was added later; if time had not been added back, and the coach was not BB, would the coach's actions have even been mentioned? (I'm thinking not)

BB was told by the ref when he went to the center of the field that there was still time on the clock, that is proven on film footage. I think it was a classless act for him to run into the tunnel while the game was not officially over.

to answer your question. he stays until the game is over and BB probably should have done so, but i'm cutting him a whole lot of slack. i can't imagine how he could have dealt with the suddenness and the finality of the loss.

Personally, I think you're the classless and hypocritical one, because I'm sure you'd be complaining about Belichick if he HADN'T come across the field right then to shake Coughlin's hand. iIf he had waited on the sideline while everyone was already on the field celebrating, if he insisted they play out the one second, you'd be here calling him a crybaby. Look in the mirror.

Isn't that the truth. People who want to find fault with BB will find a way to do so irrespective of the circmstances.

I do recall in SB XXXVI when after the kick there were many fans and media complaining that a FG should not have taken 7 seconds off the clock, but once they let that clock run down it was ovah. I also recall Mike Marz, looking about as ungracious as a human being could, ripping at the yellow tape that was already being deployed as he tried to get to midfield to do the obligatory handshake. He was actually pushing and shoving uniformed personnel out of his way. They actually herd up the losers out of that enclosure and escort them off the field pronto, which doesn't lend itself to a lot of cross congratulatory scenes on a SB field. Most losing players, particularly if they aren't part of the unit on the field as time expires, either head for the tunnel without crossing into a celebration that isn't about them or sit stunned on the bench and watch it until they can't take it any more. Some of our defensive/kickoff personnel were already in the locker room by the time Carey decided to get technical.

Shame on Carey putting time back on a clock that had obviously run down in the stadium. Those 1-2 seconds were thoroughly meaningless since the Giants already had the lead and there was literally no possibility under which that could have changed. It's called managing the moment.

Ditto. Obviously you're going to get the homer-istic answer on this board, but if coughlin had done that to Belichick, this board would be going crazy. Mike Carey stepped infront of him during the entire walk to mid field, but he completely ignored him. Not only that, but theres no way you can tell me he didn't realize that there was still time left on the clock while he walked all the way to mid field, and then left the field with his security. That's just bad sportmanship.

Dear jerk,

If you looked, there was zero left on the clock, BB headed out to midfield and the announcers started with the "there's one second left" as they put it on the board.

Can we get rid of the 3 post wonders who are just here to act like ****s to the rest of us?

So what do you do? Give up? I hope there are people in this country that have better mettle than that. I would want to teach my children that you NEVER, NEVER give up as long as there is a CHANCE.

Sweet Jesus. Teach your kids whatever the f*ck you want. What does BB care what you teach your kids?

Stop trying to make the NFL into some type of fable with a moral at the end.

I guess there is no place for honor with the Patriot nation. Perhaps the name of the team needs to be changed...

Is that the same honor that makes you sign up to a rival teams board to "rub it in"? What a low life.

Yeez, people, let it go already. There was a lot of confusion about the clock at the end of the game. Mike Carey had one second put back, and tried to coax Belichick into going back to the sideline. There was a whole crowd from both sidelines who thought the game was already over. Why did the officiating crew even bother with that one final play? I mean, there are a lot ways to let the clock run on during the game, why start nitpicking over the final second of the game? Ludicrous.

I think losing coaches usually stay on the field until the clock runs out at least - but the superbowl is different it's pretty nuts out there afterwards - you can't blame BB for bailing out early to avoid all that stuff and who can blame him after all the garbage questions he ws going to be asked if he stayed out there about spygate and not kicking the field goal

this team will come back with it's core intact like - if bruschi can come back from a stroke and do what he does they can come back and win it all next year - andbetter yet they will not have the stress of a perfect season weighing on them

the pats had all the pressure on them - nobody expected them to lose

the gmen - nobody expected them to win

in hindsight it is not that surprising they lost - they were no longer blowing people out they had competitive games late in the season against sad team (ravens) - we were due and the referee call were awful in the superbowl and all the nonsense about spygate - what a crock

Jeebus, some losers are still talking about this.

Some pathetic fans need to get a life.

Or get a girlfriend, even a homely one.

NO.....if ANY OTHER coach did what Belichick did....this would have been NO BIG DEAL.....but because it is BB...who they HATE.......it is a HUGE DEAL.....the media have a hard on fo BB......PATHETIC!!!!!!

The game clock was completely mismanaged throughout the entire second half. Nobody has really proposed this theory before, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if, when the ref told BB there was :01 on the clock, BB was well aware of the clock mismanagement and basically just said, "Eff these idiots, if they did their job properly, there wouldn't be an issue. I'm out of here."

No excuse for leaving his team, but it might provide a little more context.

all season long and last season, all the media cared about was the bb handshake. BB has to fight his way through 40 or so cameras at the end of the game. The one time he does the right thing...runs across the field to congradulate his friend, the friggn talking heads give him a hard time.
