Needs to be publicly tortured ... Carry on ..
LMAO - Was just coming on to rant and rave about how much I hate him. Good timing. On a related note, are there ANY Shortstops available that could be had at the trade deadline as apparently skipper doesn't think the kid in AAA is ready. My god how could anyone want Lugo on their team with a .154 with RISP and he leads the league in errors?????? Isn't one of the criteria for a SS doing SOMETHING well, either hitting or fielding?
I never knew why Orlando Cabrera never was allowed back
Hell, I'll take Alex Gonzales, at least you knew the defense would be impeccable...neither seems to be able to hit a pitch so, I don't get it.
Something happened with Cabrera that he "had to go". Funny thing is that even though I'v heard it mentioned by many in the media when asked why Cabrera was let go, I have never seen a single person speculate as to what the real reason was. I find it kind of bizarre, given the way the rest of sports reporting has no qualms on repeating rumors.
The real reason (or at least the first of the many theories) is that Cabrera was very interested in the underage girls of Boston. I think the reason that this didn't get out in the media is that there is little proof other than speculation. And even though there was a lot of speculation about it, calling someone a pedophile in the media is a pretty big risk unless you are completely positive that it's true.
As far as Alex Gonzalez, he played 111 games in 2006, 110 games in 2007, and has yet to play a game this year. He wouldn't be the answer either. The best shortstop this team has had over the past few years (Hanley excluded) is Renteria. Trading him was the mistake.
Never heard this one.
It is really time to let him be a backup and try and find anything, why spend in the hundreds of millions to try and win, when a single contract in the couple of millions is going to totally @#@# up the season.
I wish, but I don't think the Sox can fully abandon Lugo this year. I hope I'm wrong.
I heard the same rumor. Specifically, BC coeds.
He was let go cuz he likes to diddle with under age girls. That's the word on the street anyway.
"The best shortstop this team has had over the past few years (Hanley excluded) is Renteria. Trading him was the mistake."
Couldn't agree more, I was thrilled when we got him, beyond pissed they bailed on the guy after one whole season.
A monumental blunder by Theo the boy wonder...................
Trading Rent-a-reck was not a mistake. He isn't the type of player who can handle playing in Boston. He even admitted that he didn't know how to handle the booing?
Is that who you wan't at SS?
I thought Jed was their plan too, but with Lugo hitting as craptacular as he is, one would hope they would have brought him up by now, especially since he's doing pretty well in AAA from what my pop said when he went to see the minor league game by him, but they haven't, and they could use a bat. So what gives? No confidence, or does Lugo have dirt on Tito?
And people were saying the exact same thing about JD Drew last year.
Renteria had a back injury the entire 2005 season. His offense was OK (career high in runs, second highest total hits of his career), he just had a miserable defensive season. And when a two time gold glove winner has a miserable defensive season at age 29, chances are it's due to the back injury.
Why couldn't we fully abandon him? His pitiful average? His total inability to hit the ball with RISP? His monumental lack of power? His league leading error total? He doesn't even seem to be impressive on the bases compared to much of our other talent so I'm going to go "nope" to the base stealing/speed issue too. I don't get what this guy has on the FO that HE is the idiot we've kept around after letting go of 4 guys who were better in one way or another...
Renteria blamed his awful defense on the infield.
Drew's child had a pretty serious medical issue last season. I'm sure that had a big part in his struggles.
$22.5 mill is what is preventing the Sox from moving on from him right now.
