do you remove cassel who is gone anyway and give o'connell time to evaluate him going into the offseason?

I say they almost have to ......... at least that way, they'll have more experience at backup QB than they did going into this year

why woud they do that? They are trading brady and keeping cassel remember? Just kidding!

Any way, yea you would think that they would, but do they ever do what we think they would? I hope they keep winning and this isnt even an option.

Gee how many other teams dump their starting QB's when they are still in the playoff race?

This one won't either and no matter what happens this weekend, the Patriots will not be mathematically eliminated from winning the division.

they wont have to, if they lose again the brilliant fans of New England will probably run Cassel out of town 2 weeks after annointing him as an All-Pro.

I wouldn't doubt it. Afterall these are the same people who wanted to toss aside our HOF QB like he was trash until the team lost against the Steelers.

I would only see O'Connell playing if we have either the East or a wildcard spot locked up heading into the Bills game.

if the pats lose, it would require the jets losing at least 3 out of the next 4.....unless you believe that the jets will lose both home games to the bills and the dolphins.........at this point, it is unlikely the pats beat out the colts or the ravens for the wild cards

    there's hope......then there's reality

The Patriots will try to win football games right up to their

final game. Plenty of time next preseason to evaluate

    O'Connell.

Are you confusing the fans of New England with the tiny proportion of "fans" who post on message boards and call into sports talk radio?

once/if the pats are eliminated, continuing with a backup who is gone next year anyway does not help the team in any way.......if the pats had a certain regard for brady to take him in the 6th round, and thought cassel was important enough to draft in the 7th round, then they must have really high hopes for o'connell........to give him time now in order to understand what needs to be done developmentally in the offseason would be a very prudent move

More accurately, they must have seen a lot of the same intangibles they saw in Brady and Cassel. [They've as much as said that Brady was the top player on their board well before they took him, and passed b/c they couldn't justify spending so much on a QB when they still had Bledsoe; as for Cassel, I could have seen the Pats spending as much as a fifth on him if they had had to, but since no one else would be likely to draft him, why not wait until the seventh round?]

while cassel may have good mechanics, its his intangibles that are his weakness..........
