I know the thought of rooting for Manning and the Colts is probably a disturbing one to many Pats fans...but I realize now that I want to see them win their divisional game when it comes time for it.

Honestly, after having surveyed the talent of the NFL for the past 13 weeks, after destroying two out of the top 5 teams in the league (Cowboys and Steelers), wouldn't you feel cheated or disappointed if the Patriots and Colts didn't meet in the playoffs and some lesser opponent managed to knock either of them off?

I'd feel robbed of a classic match-up and a classic game, as well as feeling robbed of what is right and approrpiate - that the two best teams in the game play each other.

While I think the Pats are still on another level, the Colts are the closest to actually being on that level, and from there, the drop off is considerable. My respect for the rest of the league and the other so called "top teams", Dallas, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, declines on a weekly basis.

I wish we could just fast forward to the AFCCG game and watch Brady and Manning go at it again. Everything in between now and then will be a bit perfunctory, and any outcome other than the said showdown will be annoying.

I'll take the Buffalo Bills. In fact, my ideal scenario would be the Bills winning 2 overtime games -- the second on Sunday night (while we get the Saturday game) and lasting 3 overtimes. I'd root for having the game played in flu-inducing cold, but since it will almost certainly be in Indy, that seems too much.

Then, since we're dreaming, how about the Redskins in the SB?

Put another way, I want to see the team win the championship. Easy is fine with me. I discovered this year watching the Sox beat up the Rockies that the championship is what matters. Would it have been better playing the Yankees along the way? Ehh. Who cares. The trophy is the thing.

It's true to some extent, but they don't win championships in a vacuum. They play the game to entertain, and to me, the most dramatic and entertaining matchup is Colts-Pats. And wouldn't you like to be able to say that we went through the Colts to get to the Super Bowl? I would.

If it doesn't happen, I'm not going to jump off a bridge, but I do think it would be a letdown if we don't get this matchup again come playoff time.

Hell no I don't want to see the Colts again. You crazy? In descending order of which team I'd most like to see in the AFC Game (Can't be the Browns because if they win first we see them in the divisional game).

    1. Chargers (Without decent quarterback play you will not beat the Patriots. Period.)

    2. Pittsburgh (Anyone seriously think after Sunday they have enough defense to stop the Patriots?)

    3. Jacksonville (Tough, tough defense and a very competent quarterback. Great running backs, could shock someone in the playoffs. I don't want to see them.)

    4. Colts ('Nuff said. Good secondary, great quarterback, familiar with our personnel and has a grudge.)

they were probably thinking that in 2004 when they destroyed us in the regular season only to be destroyed themselves in the playoffs

That's just fear of losing though - I don't think we'll lose against the Colts, but I do think it will be a more interesting matchup.

I would feel unfulfilled if we hadn't played them in the regular season, but we did - on their field, with their craptastic refs. I don't really care if we face them again.

We've beaten all the best teams in the NFL except for the Packers. A SB versus the Pack with a eye for revenge would be sweet indeed.

So no, I don't really care who we face as we've faced almost every playoff team worth playing and won.

Re: If it's not Pats v Colts in the AFCCG, I will feel cheated

There are major differences between those two situations. The Patriots in that game had bad turnovers early and were forced to get away from the way they generally play. Sunday's game was a straightforward personnel matchup, where clearly the Pittsburgh defensive scheme does not match up well with our spread offense.

I mean, we're talking a limited field here. I'd rather see the Miami Dolphins twice (and again in Arizona) but unfortunately in the playoffs you have to beat good teams. Of the four good teams we could potentially play in the AFC game (and it will be one of those four teams), I'd way rather play Pittsburgh than Jacksonville or Indy.

If they're the two best teams you've got nothing to worry about. If the Colts get knocked off at home after a bye week they don't deserve to be in the championship game. Period.

    Neither do I.

but can you imagine what it would be like if we did?

Re: If it's not Pats v Colts in the AFCCG, I will feel cheated

Well, I'd want to vomit all over the place, but if by some freak occurrence a team shows up and beats us this season, I'd rather it be a team like the Colts who I actually have respect for, than for instance, the punk-a** Steelers who showed up this past Sunday.

Either way, I don't think we lose as long as we bring anything better than our B game to the playoffs. So, with that confidence in mind, I'm comfortable rooting for a Pats-Colts matchup.

I would rather be beaten in the AFC Championship Game by the 1972 Miami Dolphins, quarterbacked by Don Shula himself, than lose to the Colts a second year in a row.

Sorry guys but I don't want to see the Colts again. I want to play "the Sisters of the Cloth" football team. ;)

Anyone but the Colts. They've got the best shot of beating us.

I have to say, this thread reeks a bit of the "I'm bored with the blow-outs" crowd. So I have to answer a resounding, "NO. I WILL NOT FEEL CHEATED." I know what you mean, but we have played and beaten the Colts already, so that has to count for something.

The only way I agree with this is if you'd asked me, "If I guarantee you that the Pats go 19-0 and win the Super Bowl, would you like to have defeated each of the Colts, Steelers and Cowboys TWICE?" I'd say yes. But all I want now is the path of least resistance to 19-0. I don't care who or how.

In 2004 we lost the first game while playing without: Dillon, Branch, Graham, Light, Ty Law and others. That's a false comparison, IMO.

Personally, I want somebody else besides the Colts.

Maybe it's the Red Sox fan in me. All those people calling up nitwit radio leading up to the ALCS hoping for the Yankees because it wouldn't be as entertaining. Instead we got the Indians who took it all the way to 7 games. How's that for drama?

I'm sick of Manning, Clark and Co. Not that I don't think the Pats can beat them, its just that I'm sick of the Colts.
