I've titled 2 of my recent threads "satisfaction delayed". Well after this win, there is reason to say it again - A flubbed gimmee FG wasn't exactly the way I wanted to win this game, but you might say it was Karma for all the unlucky things that have happened the last 6 years. The miracle catches, the bad calls, etc. THIS time we were the beneficiaries. OR you just might look up and thank the Franchise Matriarch for pushing that kick wide. Thank you Myra!
Here are the bad things;
1. Brady didn't lie when he said he "sucked" in this game. He missed open receivers - threw to covered receivers for picks - he was impatient - he was inconsistent - This is especially irritating because his protectionism was by and large pretty good
2. We were just 2 for 5 in the red zone. We won't win a superbowl if that stat is repeated
3. 3 turnovers is another stat that won't win a superbowl
4. Solder better work on his inside move protection
5. Zoltan hadn't kicked one into the endzone all year, and in this game he did it twice
7. It hurts me to say that the best QB on the field today was Joe Flacco - who'd have thought that could happen. Who would have thought that could have happened and the Pats win
8. Gronk's injury - Hopefully he had the Ed Reed ankle injury, and that they've put him in a cryogenic chamber, and will thaw him out in a week
9. He had 2nd and 3 to pick up a first down which would pretty much lock up the game. Both plays failed. The fact is it never should have come down to a missed kicked. Too often in big game we have missed key 3rd downs to win games. This was just another one.
Thinks that were good
1. The fact is that the defense IS getting better. The Denver game wasn't a mirage, Flacco played the game of his life. Most of his completions where REAL tough throws into tight windows. It cause the Ravens to have to make a lot of 3rd downs. They made their share, but so did the Pats.
For 17 games Tom Brady essentially carried the defense. Today the defense carried him. What do they call it? Complimentary football. AMEN.
2 While Solder got beat on 2 inside moves, he was money on any outside rushes.
3. Rice and Williams are a vary good RB combo, and they got their share of yardage (about 120 yds I would guess) That's not bad against one of the better running teams in the league. Deadrick was a beast
4. Spikes sometimes took himself out of the play by shooting gaps on occasion, but overall this was the best overall game he's had as a Patriot, Nice timing Brandon.
5 Sterling Moore missed a key tackle that led to a TD where it should have been a FG try. Yet he was also the guy who saved the game punching out the ball, and stopping the last Raven pass. Pretty good for an UDFA who washed out of the Radiers camp and ours.
6. There were a few breakdown, like the BL that worked and the long pass that didn't where Ravens had wide open.guys deep, but again by and large I though, like the run defense, the pass coverage was the best I've seen this year They made Flacco hold the ball a lot. They made him throw some perfect throws on the completions he made. Its getting getting better folks......and it will have to.
7. I love the fact that for the most part the refs let them play. I don't thing there was a single holding call, and god know it seemed like the DL was held on any number of occasions. But I bet Ravens feel the same way. So better none where called than a half dozen on each side, Both officiating groups the Pats had in the playoff were excellent. A+. II hope the next group is as good. LET THEM PLAY
8. This wasn't the most impressive win the Pats have had. Suffice it to say that the meidiots will find all the faults the next 2 weeks - You know. The Pats can be stopped by a good defense, the defense still sucks when you compare with the Giants or Niners,,etc, etc. What's good about that? That would put us right where we want. UNDERDOGS -
9. Nice gesture by BJGE - You have the like the way he ran, but you've got to LOVE the gesture
10. I thought Woody had a great game running the ball. I wish they'd throw it to him more. Also his KO returns have improved. Even though he fumbled, its hard to fault him because it was more a great play by the defender, than something physical Woodhead did.
so much more to talk about, but I said this was the short version
