Okay, probably not my most dignified moment.

I just met Wilbon at Tyson's 2 mall. After my husband recognized him, I went after him. I shook his hand and said I was a big fan of PTI. He was really, really nice. He is a very big guy and has greenish eyes. I never noticed that on the show.

He asked, "So who is this?", indicating my son whom I was wearing in his baby carrier. I said he was named Harrison Brady, after Tom and Rodney. The look on Wilbon's face was priceless. He said,"I'm going to have to mention that on the show."

I told him he needed to not write any more articles about taking Brady out and he said he loved seeing them run it up, but he was afraid someone would go for Brady to make a name for himself. I said, doesn't that have just as much chance to happen in the 1st quarter as the 4th and he said no, some young guy would do it after getting embarrassed. He'd just ignore his assignment and try to make news. My husband said Ray Lewis might try that and Mike said no, Tom and Ray are friends. He said it would more likely be some young guy on a team like the Steelers. I said Mike, you know we are watching something we have never seen before and he agreed and said he liked to watch them score.

Anyway, it was a very nice conversation. I had a lot more I could have said, but you kind of forget when you are talking face to face. He was really cool though.

Oh, he mentioned that former Patriot players told him they werre worried about Tom throwing it in the 4th and running up the score. He didn't say who.

I know. I need to just start bringing one around just in case. I didn't think I'd need it for Christmas shopping!

Okay so you resisted the urge to say that if he got better and regularly embarassed Kornheiser somebody would take out his voice box or his typing fingers?

Never mind... it would only work if he were a really good media figure :)

Seriously, great story! It's kind of nice to see the public/private difference (okay so Tysons II isn't exactly private... but you know what I mean: on-air versus off-air.)

What a GREAT story, Chick! I love stuff like that.

Honestly, Wilbon has pretty much been very pro-Pats until that ONE article (OK, he also jumped all over the Shula thing, saying "Wow, if Shula says it, there must be something to it").

He is an excellent writer and PTI is the standard for all the other sports talks shows out there. Lots of imitators, no parallels. I used to listen to him and Kornheiser go at it on WTEM all the time and PTI was a natural outgrowth of that.

    Harrison Brady? Seriously?

    That's dedication!

Great story. It does make you wonder how many journalists like Wilbon are that nice to sports fans like you and I.

Your story did remind me of my chance encounter with Peter Gammons years ago in a Copley Square bookstore... though I didn't approach him, a couple of other guys did and Peter wasn't all that cordial.

I wish I had a camera phone or a digital camera when I had a chance encounter with John Hannah, who actually sat right next to me earlier this year on the T.

We'll see him on PTI recounting the fear he had when he was viciously attacked physically and mentally by a rabid Patriots fan. That's when your foot will kick out the television set. :violent:

I met Mark Schlereth in an airport (on his way to cover a Broncos game in Denver) 2 years ago and he was perfectly nice to me and my son. I think a lot of these guys are nice as long as you don't ask them for autographs and crap. Even with Gammo, I bet the other guys you mention could have done a better job of approaching him.

That really sucks that Gammons was rude to those guys. Were they giving him a hard time?

I think I may have benefitted from the whole girl-with-baby thing. Now that I think about it, I just kind of took off after him without really thinking. He was alone, but on the phone. Luckily, he hung up before I called his name.

My husband was extremely embarrassed though. He told Mike she doesn't usually go chasing people down when they are on the phone. :D

That's neat to run into a sports celebrity like that and then they spend some time talking. If I ran into him, I'd like to give him some advice, although I know I'd chicken out, to back off on some of the holier than thou, or I'm smarter than you attitude he seems to exhibit to Kornheiser lately. Early in PTIs life, it seemed to be the opposite, with Kornheiser more the hot dog type. I can't really take Wilbon any more. Maybe it's just me.

Tough one to call with Brady. I'd like to see him get the records, but the last thing I'd ever want to see is Tom get injured by a cheap shot. I think he's going to play more than we all might think he needs to though, so keeping fingers crossed.

I met this mother in a restaurant when she saw my Pats coat who told me her baby was named Brady after they gave the baby's older brother the responsibility of naming his new little brother. I bet there are way more kids in New England named after Pats players than you imagine.

I always kind of thought Wilbon made sense and I liked his articles. That's why for me, the recent Patriots stuff he wrote was disappointing. I like him best when he is talking about teams I don't have any emotional investment in.

Ha, Mosi was my second favorite Patriot after Tony Eason back in the day. I think I just liked saying his name.

Definately let us know if he mentions it!

To his point about guys going for Brady to make a name for themselves - as I've been saying all along that's got nothing to do with him playing and running it up in the 4th quarter...

They're going after Brady in the 1st quarter as its the only shot they've got at getting a W.

Anyone considering that type of low blow isn't going to abide by some Geneva Convention of football that says one only takes a guy out in the last 15 minutes.

Bellichick, I may be mistaken, but didn't you also chase down Brian Cox's wife, or am I thinking of someone else?
