They requested the records without identifying themselves, an attempt to keep it swept under the rug. The minute someone hears "nfl" it would have been all over the news, but that is bad press for the shield... I don't think it was to protect a kicker, it was to protect Mara and the shield.Clearly Goodell's head has swelled by now to the point that he thinks he can just publicly make up his own version of the truth, and nobody will call him out on it. Not even, say, the King County sheriff. Which leads to this.

Good on Urquhart for airing the NFL's dirty laundry like that. Makes it very clear that the NFL went out of its way to request the records in such a way that they could say they did while minimizing the chance that they'd actually get anything.
It exposes that their clear motive was to cover their own ass, rather than any actual search for the facts or attempt to get things right. Gee, where have we seen that before?
