How the hell did Josh Brown only get 1 game for domestic violence?

Clearly Goodell's head has swelled by now to the point that he thinks he can just publicly make up his own version of the truth, and nobody will call him out on it. Not even, say, the King County sheriff. Which leads to this.

King County Sheriff blasts NFL over Josh Brown

Good on Urquhart for airing the NFL's dirty laundry like that. Makes it very clear that the NFL went out of its way to request the records in such a way that they could say they did while minimizing the chance that they'd actually get anything.

It exposes that their clear motive was to cover their own ass, rather than any actual search for the facts or attempt to get things right. Gee, where have we seen that before?
They requested the records without identifying themselves, an attempt to keep it swept under the rug. The minute someone hears "nfl" it would have been all over the news, but that is bad press for the shield... I don't think it was to protect a kicker, it was to protect Mara and the shield.

The NFL still would not have received the records but what the Sheriff said was that they would have told the NFL that they had solid evidence and that this was a strong case that the NFL should take seriously. The NFL knows that but choose to pretend that without the actual evidence, the police can't say anything....typical cover up

They spent 5 million dollars on air pressure measurements but from what I can tell, 10 cents on investigating a guy knocking around his wife and harassing her in front of NFL security.

So if you play in the NFL and beat your wife, the punishment is a paid vacation. Am I reading this correctly?

The guy the nfl sent to investigate the criminal case never identified himself as working for the nfl when trying to get records. The guy from sheriff's department said if he had just said he was with the nfl he would have gotten the records.

So when it comes to domestic violence for a John Mara employed player nfl won't even go as far to use the nfl name to get records.

But when it comes to some air pressure in the Patriots' footballs they will spend $10-15M and leave no stone unturned to punish them

I'm too lazy to look up the details, but there were similar issues with the NFL investigator handling the Ray Rice case. It was stuff like not following up on things and not contacting obvious sources of information, like the local police and hotel.

When you hear about stuff like this, it shows how ridiculous the conspiracy theories about the Patriots are. The league half-asses everything else, but with the spygate investigation, for example, they found tons of other evidence and covered it up. That makes no sense at all.

Small correction: Urqhart (King county sheriff) said that he would not have been able to give the NFL the records, but he would have cautioned them to proceed very carefully because they were finding a lot of fire under the smoke. So... small distinction. Either way, I think we can all agree that to whatever extent the NFL didn't know, it's because they didn't want to know and were just trying to cover their ass.
